This is true because all of the points contained herein are supported by a mass customization manufacturing strategy at Hoffman. • How to get started – Please review the MODIFICATION SERVICES TM Matrix first. It is the “backbone” of the guide and should answer most of your questions at a glance. This matrix is supported by additional details presented in bullet format in the succeeding numbered sections. • Hoffman large enclosures are available in a variety of sizes and styles. The Hoffman Specifier’s Guide or web site (www.hoffmanonline.com) can be used to assist you in the selection of the proper enclosure for your specific needs. When ordering, select a standard size item from the Specifier’s Guide or specify a dimensional size change by indicating the enclosure family and size change within the limits noted below. • The contents of this bulletin will change periodically, as Hoffman receives additional customer feedback on the scope of our Modification ServicesTM offering. It is advisable to obtain the most current revision from our website (http://www.hoffmanonline.com) at the beginning of a new project. • Other Hoffman publications that you should obtain when using this tool are: Hoffman Specifier’s Guide MODIFICATION SERVICES TM Finish Chart MODIFICATION SERVICES TM Tooling Sizes and Shapes MODIFICATION SERVICES TM Fastener Details 1 87743149 Rev. The most commonly used sizes are listed in the Modified Servicest “Tooling Sizes & Shapes” brochure. See the drawings at http://www.hoffmanonline.com for usable areas on the enclosure bodies and door. Should the location of a hole or cutout fall outside of the usable area, Hoffman experts are available to help you resolve any location issues. The minimum diameter size for any hole or cutout is .136 inch. A drawing is required showing all hole sizes and locations. The web page drawings can be used to fulfill this requirement. Application Note: For the enclosure to maintain its UL integrity, all holes and cutouts must be filled with a component or accessory with the same UL rating as the enclosure. E 2000 Hoffman Enclosures Inc. 8 87743149 Rev. A ® 6.0 Door Modifications • Several modifications are available for enclosure doors. These include: hinging, gaskets, drip shields, data pockets, and door handles. 6.1. Hinging • On enclosures that come standard with continuous hinges, you can replace these hinges with lift–off style hinges, or the continuous hinge can be provided with stainless steel hinge pins. • Enclosures that come standard with lift–off hinges can be converted to continuous hinges with stainless steel pins if required. • If required, doors on the A30–1, A30–1DA, and the A4L–1 can be hinged on the opposite side of standard. Application Note: Hoffman’s lift–off hinges have stainless steel pins. 6.2. Gaskets • Gaskets can be shipped loose. Standard gasket material is black neoprene. WARNING: Will void UL and CSA Type 12 or 4 rating. 6.3. Drip Shield • Should you require it, a drip shield is available installed on NEMA 12 enclosures (drip shields are not allowed on NEMA 4 enclosures). Stainless steel hinge pins are included installed with all drip shields. Hoffman will also provide drain holes in the enclosure bottom at your request . WARNING: Drain holes void UL Type 12 designation. Application Note: • Hoffman’s large disconnect enclosures now include a flanged trough collar around all door openings. This flanged trough collar eliminates the need for a drip shield in many applications. • Enclosures with a drip shield, drain holes, and a paint finish will be provided with a UL type 3R label in place of the standard type 12 label unless further modifications void the UL integrity of the enclosure. E 2000 Hoffman Enclosures Inc. 13 87743149 Rev. A ® 6.4. Data Pocket • A Hoffman standard data pocket comes installed in each enclosure. You may choose to replace these with metal data pockets that will accommodate a 3 inch three ring binder. You may also omit the data pocket and pins. Application Note: Should other selected modifications/options interfere with the data pockets, the data pockets and data pocket mounting pins will be omitted from the enclosure. 6.5. Handles • Hoffman’s standard enclosures come with a variety of door handles installed. • • • Hoffman disconnect enclosures come with a screwdriver defeater in the master door only. A screwdriver defeater can be added to all the slave door handles as well. In addition, the handles can be provided without the Hoffman logo (L50N). Hoffman’s multi–door industrial enclosures come with the L–50 Hoffman logo handle. These handles can be replaced with L–50N non–logo handles or the L–36 stainless steel padlocking handle. Hoffman’s standard single and double door NEMA 12 industrial enclosures come with a keylocking handle. These handles can be replaced with the L–50 logo handle, L–50N non–logo handle, or the L–36 stainless steel padlocking handle. E 2000 Hoffman Enclosures Inc. 14 87743149 Rev. A ® 7.0 Panel Options • Back panels are either included or available for all Hoffman large enclosures. Panel and Rack Angle Options for A30–1, A30–1DA, A30–2, A30–2DA and A4L–1 Enclosures • Panels and rack mounting angles are not supplied with the enclosure. Unless otherwise specified, enclosures come with mounting provisions only, for mounting of panels and angles. For custom size enclosures, Hoffman offers a variety of predefined configurations as shown below. All panels and angles are full height. Side mounted panels are sized in width to provide the largest panel mounting area available in the enclosure. Door mounted panels are also available but are not included in the predefined configurations (see section 7.7 for further information on door panels). When ordering a predefined configuration, rack angles will be provided installed as detailed below. Panels may be strapped to the enclosure back unless you request that they be pre–shipped or pre–installed. Rack mounting angles cannot be pre– shipped. All panels come with a glossy white or safety orange, polyester urethane powder finish. Rack angles come in white only. Application Note: For standard size enclosures or enclosures with standard “A” and “B” dimensions, Hoffman offers a full line of accessories for panel mounting or rack mounting. These accessories are available in stock for immediate shipment. The accessories defined within this section of the brochure are meant for use in custom size enclosures only, and the design or fabrication of these items may vary slightly from those defined in the Specifier’s Guide. If the following offering does not meet the needs of your specific application, custom accessories may be available through your Hoffman sales representative. 7.5.1. Panels • Panels are available in full height only and are adjustable front to back in the enclosure on the mounting strut. The sizes of these panels are determined as follows: Enclosure family Panel height (inch) Panel width (inch) A30–1 and A30–1DA A – 12.06 B – 4.06 A30–2 and A30–2DA (Full Width Panels) A – 12.06 B – 4.06 A30–2 and A30–2DA (Half Width Panels) A – 12.06 (B – 8.06)/2 A4L–1 A – 12.06 B – 5.06 7.5.2. A ® 7.5.3. Rack Mounting Angles • Rack mounting angles are the “RA” style for accommodating 19 inch and 24 inch rack equipment and are available in full lengths only. Angles are allowed only in 24 inch and 30 inch wide A30–1 and A30–1DA enclosures, 25 inch and 31 inch wide A4L–1 enclosures and 48 inch and 60 inch wide A30–2 and A30–2DA enclosures. All angles are provided with through–holes only to accommodate clip nuts (shown in the Specifier’s Guide). Angles are painted white and will not be zinc plated. The length of the angles is determined by the maximum number of rack units that will fit within the door opening of the enclosure size you select. To determine the length of angles, use the following two–step calculation: 1. Determine the number of rack units the door opening will allow, as follows: (A – 10.75 inch) / 1.75 inch = # of rack units* *Round this number down to the nearest whole number 2. Door Mounted Panels – All Enclosures • Door mounted panels are available for all doors and come as a full panel which covers the entire door or as half panels which can be mounted to cover the top and/or the bottom of each door. Application Note: A door will only support approximately 250 pounds. This total weight must include the panel and all components to be mounted on the panel. To calculate the panel weight, use the following calculation: Panel size (in square feet) x 5.50 pounds For specific information regarding door panel sizes, please consult your Hoffman sales representative. 7.7.2. Side Panels – Not Including A30 and A4L–1 Enclosures • Side panels are available for both the left and the right side of the enclosure. On disconnect enclosures with the disconnect in the right hand flange, the left side panels come as full panels only, and right side panels come as half panels only. On all other enclosures, both the left and right side panels are full sized. 7.7.3. Panels Safety Orange – All Enclosures • Five color choices of a safety orange finish are offered in addition to Hoffman’s standard white finish for all panels: International Orange (S006), Pure Orange (S007), OSHA Safety Orange (S076), Chrysler Safety Orange (S083), and Ingersoll Safety Orange (S089). Selecting this option will mean that all panels required (back, side, and door) will be finished in the safety orange color selected. 7.7.4. Panels Shipped Ahead – All Enclosures • All panels specified (back, sides, and doors) will be shipped together. Specify the required ship date for enclosure and panels at time of order. E 2000 Hoffman Enclosures Inc. 30 87743149 Rev. A ® 8.0 Structural Modifications • A variety of structural modification options are available for the enclosure body. Lifting eyes can be threaded into blind tapped pads; the light mounting channel, the panel mounting strut, body rails or body stiffeners can be omitted from the enclosure; and a false bottom can be provided in some enclosures. 8.1. Lifting Eyes – All Enclosures • If an oil tight seal is required when the lifting eyes are removed from the enclosure, Hoffman’s standard lifting eyes can be threaded into blind tapped pads (sealed wells) on the enclosure top. These tapped pads are continuously welded in place to provide a dust tight and oil tight seal. 8.2. Light Mounting Channel – All Enclosures • A channel is provided on the inside top of the enclosure for mounting of light kits. If necessary, this light mounting channel can be omitted from the enclosure. 8.3. Panel Mounting Strut – A30 and A4L–1 Enclosures • On Hoffman A30 and A4L–1 enclosures, panel mounting strut is provided running front to back in the enclosure. This mounting strut can be omitted from the enclosure if required. However, if this strut is omitted, Hoffman accessories such as panels and rack angles cannot be used in the enclosure. WARNING: Hoffman cannot guarantee the flatness, strength or rigidity of the enclosure sides if the standard struts are omitted. Depending on the enclosure size, the UL integrity of the enclosure may be violated by this modification. 8.4. Body Rails – All A34 and Multi–door Enclosures • The inside rear of the A34 and multi–door enclosures are provided with (3) body rails. If these body rails interfere with your modification requirements, the rails can be omitted from the enclosure. However; if you choose to omit the body rails, the interior panel, panel mounting studs and panel support angles must also be omitted from the enclosure. WARNING: Hoffman cannot guarantee the flatness, strength or rigidity of an enclosure back if the standard stiffeners are omitted. 8.5. Body Stiffeners – All Applicable Double Door Enclosures • Back body stiffeners are provided on most double door enclosures. These stiffeners can be omitted from the enclosure if required. WARNING: Hoffman cannot guarantee the flatness, strength or rigidity of an enclosure back if the standard stiffeners are omitted. The UL integrity of the enclosure may be violated if the stiffeners are omitted and no back panel is installed in the enclosure. Either stiffeners, a rear mounted panel, or both are required to meet UL requirements. 8.6. False Bottom – A28 and A34 Enclosures Only • A28 and A34 enclosures can be provided with a false bottom (or cable cover) located approximately 5.5 inches off the enclosure bottom for wire management purposes. E 2000 Hoffman Enclosures Inc. 31 87743149 Rev. A ® 9.0 Environmental Options • Hoffman’s Modification Servicest program offers several ways to ventilate your enclosure. Louvers are available in both a stamped–in version and also as louver inserts. Stamped–in louvers are only available on the enclosure doors in predefined configurations and at default locations. Louver inserts can be installed on the enclosure body or doors at predefined default locations or at customer specified locations, if accompanied by a drawing(s). Filters are available for any of the louver configurations listed below. • In addition to louvers, Hoffman offers standard fan packages and grille kits. Default locations are provided for all fan packages and grille kits, however, customer specified locations are allowed if accompanied by a drawing(s).
