MUX100 User Guide 1 INTRODUCTION The MUX100 is an analog to digital interfacing device. In most applications, it is used to connect different protocols or interfaces. It can be used to connect international protocols to domestic protocols. It can be used to enable equipment manufactured in one country to communicate with a domestic network. The basic configuration of the MUX100 consists of a 3U x 318 mm chassis, which fits into a standard 19 inch equipment rack. The chassis is equipped with one DSP Module, one CPU Module (to load the protocol and configuration, perform monitoring functions and provide status and alarm information), one Aggregate Module (to provide a T1 or E1 interface, and framing), one analog module (i.e. FXS, FXO, 4 wire EM etc.)and one Power Supply (to provide correct power to each module). Optionally, partial redundancy can be obtained with the addition of another Power Supply. Addition of a ringing voltage device, will allow FXS cards to ring attached telephones. 2 REDUNDANCY The addition of analog modules and another DSP can expand the MUX100 to handle up to 30 Voice channels. Full redundancy can be obtained with the addition of another CPU Module. All modules can be plugged and unplugged while the power is on and not effect the operation of calls in progress. 3 INTERFACE The MUX100 can be equipped for either T1 or E1 aggregate modules. The Computer Console Interface provides an Alarm and a Supervisory Port. The Alarm Port provides form C, dry contact relay outputs. The Supervisory Port provides the ability to configure the MUX100 and use the Network Monitoring System. The -48 VDC power inputs are supplied via the DC Input Modules. The DC Input Modules are diode isolated and therefore can be fed from different power sources for true redundancy. 4 INSTALLATION The MUX100 can be installed by mounting the unit into a suitable rack and securing it with four screws through the front mounting brackets. Connect the PCM connections to the Line Interface Module. Connect the Supervisory Port to a Computer Terminal. Connect the Alarm Port (if used) to the remote monitoring system. Connect -48 VDC to the DC Input Module. Pinouts of power and DB connectors are shown below. The Computer Terminal is a DTE device. When connecting to the Computer Terminal via the Supervisory Port on the rear of the MUX100, a null Modem may be required. 5 CONFIGURATION Using a communications program of your choice, configure the program to communicate with the MUX100 using the following settings: Baud Rate Data Bits Parity Stop Bits Flow Control 9600 8 None 1 None Apply power to the MUX100 by turning on the power switches on the rear of the unit. The LED indicators on the front of the unit will turn on. This will indicate the CPU is initializing the unit. All LED’s except the in-service (and alarm, if any) will turn off. A green LED will remain and ready for service. An opening banner will be displayed on the computer monitor. The prompt will indicate which CPU is in service. All commands are entered in lower case letters and must be followed by pressing the enter key. The help command will provide a listing of the commands needed by an installer, operator or technician. 2 6 User Interface Commands 6.1 Help The "help" command will provide a list of all the user commands used in the MUX100. This command will assist the operator when a manual is not available. Primary-online>help In the commands listed below, items listed in brackets ("[]") are optional. Items separated by "|" indicate a choice of parameters. Items listed between "<" and ">" are required. The banner information will include the company name, product, software product, equipment platform, copyright information, and software version number. 6.1.2 Version primary-online> ver Version: 14595.0102, dated: 05.25.99 Flash EPROM version primary-online> The "ver" command will provide information about the type of CPU installed, the version of software included in the CPU and the software release date of the CPU software. This command gives the operator all the information that would normally be seen if the operator was facing the unit. In the above screen, slot 9’s card was cleared. This will cause all alarm reporting information to be discontinued from that module until it is reset. This will be indicated by the in-service LED on the secondary CPU turning on and the primary turning off. This command can be used to transfer from the secondary CPU to the primary. It is strongly recommended to refrain from changing these timers unless you fully understand the function of each timer and how it will effect the PSTN network. 6.1.7 Config Chan primary-online> config chan 1 configure channel parameters CPU must be reset for changes to take effect! Rx level (in dBm from -18.5 to +6.9): current 0.0 Tx level (in dBm from -17.8 to +7.6): current 0.0 primary-online> The "config chan (number, , all)" allows the operator to configure the individual channels. Each channel must be configured to accept a call. The channels can be configured on an individual basis or by using the word "all" in the place of a number. The options in the channel configuration menu allow the system to be optimized. The following terms are explained to allow the user to better understand the use of each option. Configuration Options: 9 Rx level (in dBm from -18.5 to +6.9): current 0.0 Changes receive level of the fxs card. Tx level (in dBm from -18.5 to +6.9): current 0.0 Changes transmit level of the fxs card. 6.1.8 Reset primary-online> reset primary-online> The "reset" command is used to reset the MUX100 after the configuration of all channels. Upon use of this command, the entire MUX100 will initialize causing all calls in progress to be lost. The new information configured will be installed from the online CPU. The LED indicators on the front of the Aggregate modules will turn on momentarily. The opening banner will be displayed on the screen. 7 Alarms Major alarm contacts are activated when the primary or secondary (if equipped) power supply fails, primary or secondary (if equipped) Clock fails, primary or secondary (if equipped) CPU fails, any installed Aggregate Module. Major alarms are also activated in the event of loss of Sync, loss of Multiframe or loss of carrier. Minor alarm contacts are activated when all 1's (AIS alarm), Multiframe all 1's signal (AIS alarm), Yellow alarm or trunk Multiframe Yellow alarm OCCURS. The alarm contacts, which are form C dry contacts, can be configured as normally open or normally closed. 8 LED Indicators The Central Processor Module is equipped with INS (In-service) indicators. The INS indicator is on during normal operation. This indicates a module is ready for service. The Aggregate Modules are equipped with Red, YEL (yellow), AIS and RLSD (received Line Signal Detect) indicators. The RED indicator becomes active when an out of frame condition occurs for more than 2.5 seconds. An out of frame condition is declared when the Aggregate Module senses an error in the framing bits or when no signal is present at the input for 2.5 seconds or more. The red alarm condition is cleared when no out of frame condition is detected for 2.5 seconds or more. The YEL (yellow) alarm activates when a remote failure is detected. The yellow alarm is cleared when no remote failure condition is detected for at least 2.5 seconds. The AIS indicator is activated when a framed or unframed "all-ones" condition is detected. The RLSD (Receive Line Signal Detect) indicator is activated when a PCM (E1 or T1) is connected properly. The Power Supply Module is equipped with a -48V IN indicator and a +5V OUT indicator. The -48V IN indicator is illuminated when -48VDC is applied to the equipment shelf and the power switch for that supply is on. A loss of -48VDC will cause the -48VDC indicator no to illuminate. The +5VDC is illuminated when +5VDC is available to each module. The +5VDC is derived from the -48VDC. 10 9 Troubleshooting The MUX100 has built-in non-intrusive test and monitoring capabilities. These capabilities allow the user to quickly determine if there is a problem and isolate the problem. These software tools reduce down time and cost of external test equipment. A loop back can be placed on an individual trunk (E1 or T1) to allow the operator to send the information they are receiving to the originator. This will not interrupt the information being received by the MUX100. The originator can now look at the signal they are supplying to the MUX100. The loop back can be placed on either signaling protocol of the Aggregate Module. The user must understand the operation of the individual country protocol before making any decisions as to the nature of a problem or if there is a true problem. 11 10 TSCFLASH © The TSCFlash program enables the CPU, Model CPU101 and above, to overwrite information in the flash EPROMs U11 and U12. This program is designed to operate in the Windows 95 environment. Upon application of power, the Control Terminal will display a series of ##. This condition should not exceed 1 minute. If the display continues for more than one (1) minute, load the program provided on the diskette labeled "Program Diskette". 10.1 PC TSCFlash Program Installation © To install the TSCFlash program onto a PC For Installatin from a Diskette: 1. Select "START" from the command menu in the lower left corner. 2. Select "RUN" from the pop up menu. © 3. Insert the "TSCFlash Disk 1" into the floppy drive. 4. Type “<floppy drive letter>\:INSTALL” and press the enter key. 5. Follow the instructions displayed on the Control Terminal's Monitor. For installation from an E-mailed file 1. Uncompress/unzip the file into a temporary directory 2. Select "START" from the command menu in the lower left corner. 3. Select "RUN" from the pop up menu. 4. Type “<drive letter\directory name>\:INSTALL” and press the enter key. 5. Follow the instructions displayed on the Control Terminal's Monitor. © The TSCFlash program is ready to load new programs or general communications with the MUX100. © The following procedure will enable to user to install updated programs using the TSCFlash program. © © © 1. Select the TSCFlash icon (or open the TSCFlash program from the Start/Program/TSCFlash menu). 2. From the File Menu select "open". 3. Insert the program diskette into drive "A" (or "B"), or copy it to C:\TSCFLASH\ directory on your PC 4. Select the program file to be downloaded. This will have a file extension of “hex”. 5. Select the OK key. 6. Select Terminal Emulation from the File Menu. 7. Type "flash" and press the enter key. The Control Terminal will display a series of ### symbols for one (1) minute. 8. Close the Terminal Emulation menu by selecting the X in the upper right corner of the window. 9. Select "Flash" from the File Menu to start the download process. 10. When the download process is completed, press the OK key. 11. Select "Exit" from the File Menu. 12. Return to the Communications program or the Terminal Emulation section of this program. 13. Type "debug on" and press the enter key. 14. Type "coldstart" and press the enter key. 15. Reconfigure the Trunks and Channels. 16. Type reset all. 17. The MUX100 is now ready for service. 12 11 Modem Connections 11.1 MUX100 Supervisory Port The Supervisory port has been designed for use with a dumb terminal connected locally. While it is possible to connect an external modem to the MUX100, the modem must be configured for use with a serial interface which provides the physical connections detailed in section Error! Reference source not found. and data port characteristics detailed in section Error! Reference source not found.. It is the users responsibility to configure their modem to the physical and port characteristics of the MUX100. Generally the following are issues which must be addressed. Your choice of modem may have additional requirements. 1. MUX to Modem connections require a null modem adapter. 2. Enable auto answer. Hayes “AT” command: AT S0=1 3. Disable result codes. Hayes “AT” command: AT Q1 4. Turn local echo off. Hayes “AT” command: AT E0 5. Over-ride Data Terminal Ready (DTR). Hayes “AT” command: AT &D0 6. Disable flow control. 11.2 TSC Flash TSCFlash program can be used with an internal or external modem connected to a PC. The modem must be set for the following.
