Semaphore has plenty of
big grassy areas for picnics
and BBQ’s, with a choice of
playgrounds for all ages and
a skate park to keep the kids
busy.
Semaphore is definitely looking forward, but
you should start by looking back.
Stand at the end of the Jetty and turn to look
at Semaphore. Notice something different?
How about the tremendous sense of space.
Semaphore Beach is deep and white and
backed by low dunes rather than tall buildings,
so you get a sense of being miles from
anywhere.
From family fun to lazing on the beach. Fly a
kite or walk the dog, Semaphore Beach invites
you to swim and play, and the jetty is a favorite
for fishing. Stroll or cycle the coastal path or sit
back, enjoy the seaside lifestyle and watch
the world go by.

down the water slide, ride on
the vintage carousel or ferris
wheel, buy ice creams and fish
and chips from a beachside
kiosk, cycle on the bike track,
and ride on the steam train
that puffs 2km along the
shoreline.

Semaphore Road - over 80 stores doing their
own thing, creating one of the most colourful
shopping experiences in SA! Start at the
foreshore and work your way east along the
lines of verandahs and bluestone buildings
that make up surprising Semaphore Road.
Check out the edgy mix of old, alternative
and new – the street where ‘boutique’ sits
beside ‘bargain’, ‘chic’ beside ‘cheeky’, and
‘contemporary vintage’ beside shops that have
been serving the locals for decades.
Two things to remember: be sure to explore
the side roads (you never know what you
might find); and don’t stop at Military Road –
Semaphore Road offers more shopping, cafes
and restaurants all the way to Glanville Station.

Try The Palais for the salt air and beachside atmosphere; The Flying
Knife for a mixture of traditional favourites and something a little
different, Phore Seasons for the refined Italian dining and Sarah’s
Sister’s for its renowned vegetarian degustation. With its funky rustic
surroundings, try Sully’s Café for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while
the Third Cork Wine Bar offers great wine, food and music and don’t
forget the fantastic view. The Semaphore Pantry does gourmet
restaurant style takeaway and at The Corner Store choose from their
take home meals and ‘gourmet deli’ range.

Semaphore Angel Pottery located on the seafront offers a
wonderful selection of locally made pottery and glass, many
of the cafes display and sell local art works and Hot Tonto is an
art gallery and collectable toys specialty shop with a sci-fi
memorbilia influence .

Semaphore Rd for a lazy brunch..spend the
day discovering all semaphore has to offer..and
then watch a majestic sunset while you choose
where to dine..
The perfect place to base yourself, only 18
minutes from the Adelaide CBD, close to
historic Port Adelaide, as well as AAMI stadium
to watch the Crows or Power.
Semaphore offers a range of accommodation
choices, if you’re looking for luxury apartments
try Semaphore Blue or Timeball Apartments,
or choose from many cosy B and B’s and
cottages including ‘Inn a Church’.
There are caravan parks to holiday homes,
hotels and motels.
Semaphore hosts Australia’s largest kite festival in March. The
Semaphore Street Fair in November sees the community getting
together on Semaphore Road to celebrate everything Semaphore!
Other carnivals include the Summer Carnival, New Year’s Eve and
Australia Day fireworks, Greek Festival, and Semaphore Music
Festival.

From an area that was specifically established to
service shipping, Semaphore developed through
the years to, at one time, the most popular beach
in the State.
Semaphore’s maritime history isn’t confined to a
museum, nor hidden by developments. From the
jetty you can see the Timeball Tower, the largest
working carousel in the southern hemisphere,
the glorious 1920’s Palais bathing pavilion, the
historic buildings along Semaphore Road and the
old Ozone Theatre building just to name a few.

The SMA is the only community organisation in Semaphore
that brings together business owners, residents and Council
representatives to promote Semaphore as a unique place to
