Daylighting Controls
Let the Sun Be Your Guiding Light
™
HBA introduces the Zone5 Daylight Harvesting System, which combines all three daylighting approaches and controls
tailored to the specific and demanding needs of daylight harvesting applications. Daylighting controls like HBA’s Zone5
Harvesting System impact budgets by harnessing the sun’s power to reduce energy consumption. HBA’s solutions for
daylighting control include dimming, stepped dimming, and switching systems.
Dimming systems continuously adjust light output by signaling dimming ballasts, and stepped dimming offers the
advantages of full-range dimming without the expense of dimming ballasts. Lamps are either fully turned off or partially
turned off, depending on natural light levels.
Switching systems turn lighting OFF or ON in accordance with available natural light. With a lower initial cost than dimming
systems, switching systems are most often recommended for warehouses, storage areas, atrium, lobbies and parking
facilities, where non-stationary tasks are performed.

Using a unique Open Loop control algorithm, the Luxstat Dimming Control Module
by Servodan provides continuous dimming daylight harvesting control to an area. The
lights dim when there is enough daylight, and they brighten when there is not enough
daylight. Instead of measuring the light already inside an area, this module measures
the amount of daylight entering an area.
During installation, lighting levels (without artificial lighting) are measured at task
height for each of the 3 zones. The controller adjusts each of the zones independently
to maintain the desired lighting levels within each space while taking advantage of
available natural daylight. The Luxstat Dimming Control Module is part of a daylight

The Luxstat ON/OFF Control Module by Servodan provides multilevel ON/OFF
daylight harvesting control by using a unique Open Loop control algorithm. The
lights turn off when there is enough daylight, and they turn on when there is not
enough daylight. Instead of measuring the light already inside of an area, this
module measures the amount of daylight entering an area. During installation,
lighting levels (without artificial lighting) are measured at task height for each of
the 3 zones. When daylight is adequate, the controller switches lighting off. When
daylight is below the desired level, the control module switches lighting back on.

The Luxstat Power Pack by Servodan powers the Luxstat ON/OFF Control Module
and the Luxstat Dimming Control Module. It supplies low-voltage power to the
control modules via a quick connect cable and has 3 normally open relays (ON/
OFF switches controlled by a circuit) to switch line voltage in response to signals
from the connected controller.
Additionally, the power pack has an automatically resetting fuse. If the current
drawn from the power pack exceeds the specifications, the +24VDC output and
