As a postgraduate student, I shall comply with the following conditions and responsibilities:
• To conduct my dissertation research and other postgraduate studies.
• To ensure that the work progresses on schedule and also keep the supervisors informed about
the progress (also regarding article-based dissertations).
• To submit the sections of the dissertation as agreed in advance to the supervisors for their
comments at least
before the meetings.
• I shall set an agenda for the meetings, which includes any issues regarding my work.
• I shall pay attention to the supervisors’ comments on my work (regarding e.g. background
reading, methods, presentation, progress and publication).
• I shall keep a brief record of the supervisory meetings (summary of the main points discussed)
and submit a copy to each supervisor within a week of each meeting.1
• I shall actively participate in the research seminars arranged by the Department (both written
and verbal assignments) as well as other conferences and events that promote my research.
• I shall submit the supervisors an annual report on the progress of the research and other related activities.
• I shall aspire to arrange a supervisory meeting with each supervisor present at least once a
year.
• I shall adhere to good scientific practice in the supervisory relationship as well as the ethical
guidelines of the University.
• I shall discuss different research funding and career opportunities with my supervisor.

The record of the meetings is meant to keep each supervisor informed about what has been agreed regarding the course of the research. If there is a change of supervisor(s), the record will help the new supervisor get
acquainted with the different stages of the process.

As a supervisor, I shall comply with the following:

• I shall acquaint myself beforehand with the texts submitted for comments for each meeting.
• I shall set an agenda for the meetings, which includes any questions and issues regarding the
work supervised.
• I shall aspire to participate in events where the supervisee presents his/her work.
• Regarding the supervisory relationship, I shall adhere to good scientific practice as well as the
ethical guidelines of the University.
• I shall discuss different research funding and career opportunities with my supervisee.
• If necessary, I shall write letters of recommendation and other documents.
