Press Release Fall 2016 ALFEX DESIGN COLLECTION: NEOCLASSIC INSPIRATION WITH AN ADDED GLANCE AT THE FUTURE. After the great success of the models launched at Baselworld 2016, which were inspired by neoclassic architecture, Alfex is now presenting its Fall/Winter collection. The inspiration comes from neoclassicism with an added glance at the future… Simplicity and symmetry are still the main features but in a less classical way, by introducing new shapes and new materials for the tiny details. And by proposing a mechanical watch! Alfex fully agrees with a quote by Dieter Rams, a German industrial designer: design is thorough down to the last detail. It means that nothing must be arbitrary or left to chance. That’s why Alfex takes the utmost care and accuracy in the design process. CANOVA ref. 5729 Antonio Canova was an Italian neoclassic sculptor famous for his marble sculptures of delicate nudes. He carved white Carrara marble, transforming the raw stone into a smooth, perfect levigated masterpiece. The Alfex lady watch ref. 5729 reminds us of Canova’s sleeked artworks: the perfectly round case in anti allergic stainless steel, the circular rose-gold frame on the dial, the symmetry of the indexes and the four simili stones are the elements that contribute to create an elegant timepiece. The watch is equipped with a black leather strap, a sapphire crystal and a Swiss movement and is available with a white or a black dial. EMMA ref. 5734 Emma Lady Hamilton was a blacksmith’s daughter who became Lord Nelson’s mistress and developped what she called her "attitudes": a mix of poses, dance and theatre using tunics and large veils. She launched this new form of entertainment and the new fashion of using tunics and veils. The Alfex lady watch ref. 5734 is well representing this daring woman. Its squared case appears very simple like Emma’s origins but it hides some special features: the ornamental rim in a different color, the single simili stone on the dial, the sapphire crystal and a Swiss movement. Many versions are available, all with black leather strap: equipped with an antiallergic stainless steel case and ip black ornamental rim completed by a white simili stone; or with an ip rosegold case and ip black ornamental rim as well as a peach simili stone; available also in stainless steel case with a steel brushed ornamental rim and a peach simili stone; or with steel case and ip gold ornamental rim rounded off with a white simili stone. PENELOPE ref. 5748 Penelope is one of the most important painting by the Neoclassic painter Angelika Kaufmann. She was born in Switzerland and was one of the two female founding members of the Royal Academy in London. She was specialised in history painting, a matter that required a long training including the study of anatomy from the nude male. Most women were denied access to such training, yet Kauffman managed to cross the gender boundary. The Alfex lady watch ref. 5748 has many elements in common with this painter: the Swiss origin, the determination or rather the reliability of the sapphire crystal and the antiallergic steel, rounded off with the femininity of the white or black or light blue simili stones on the dial. Six versions are available, all with meshband: in ip rosegold steel or ip gold steel or stainless steel, with rosegold, white, black or silver dials, with white or light blue or black simili stones. SYON ref. 5730 Syon House in West London is the most impressive work by the neoclassic interior designer Robert Adam. The main elements of the house are marble chimneypieces, shuttering doors, fluted columns with Corinthian capitals, niches into the thick wall for functioning as bookshelves along with a rich and light decoration and stucco-covered walls and ceiling. In Adam’s project there was a central domed rotunda with a circular inner colonnade meant for the main interior courtyard. The gent watch ref. 5730, with its particular design on the dial, bring us back to this rotunda, this circular space planned as courtyard. The geometry of the dial is symmetric and yet unusual. Beneath eight classicl indexes we have four horizontal and curved indexes. Two versions are available, both with antiallergic stainless steel case and black leather strap: with black dial and steel/blue indexes or with white dial and steel indexes. The watch is equipped with a sapphire crystal and a Swiss movement. HEIDEN ref. 5561 Heiden is a Swiss small town in the canton of Appenzell completely destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1838. Within two years, the village had been rebuilt in a geometric, neoclassic Biedermeier style. Thanks to the stylistic unity and purity, Heiden is called the Biedermeier village. The gent mechanical watch ref. 5561 presents the same features: simplicity, elegance and Swissness. It is equipped with a mechanical hand-winding Swiss movement ETA 6498-1, pearled and with blue screws. The case is made by anti allergic stainless steel, the sapphire crystal has an antireflex coating and the caseback is made by a scratchproof sapphire glass. The watch is available either with metal bracelet or with black leather strap adorned with off-white stitches; the black dial, with hands and indexes in superluminova, can boast either an orange or a blue small second hand. Alfex is producing a limited quantity of this timeless masterpiece.
