Professor of Histology, Cytology & Genetics Course Description: This course will provide the students with the basic knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of the basics of emergency care. The course will emphasize on the way by which the students can identify the common emergency cases as well as the medical care of such cases including the Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). This course will also offer the technical training program about first aid as well as the technical aspects of basic life support in nursery laboratories. TEACHING METHODS 1. LECTURES: The main purposes of lectures are: to provide up-to-date information that is not yet present in the textbooks, to help separate essential material from non-essential, and to add breadth to the course by presenting material and insights not found in the textbook, and color photographs to supplement the text. After each lecture, the lecturer will be available to answer questions. PowerPoint slides to accompany each lecture will be posted in advance of the lecture on the course Web Site. All students are required to regularly attend the lectures. The relatively small number of students allows for interactive type of lectures, where the students are allowed and encouraged to participate by asking and answering questions. All lectures are in Power Point format, illustrated and sometimes animated and contain explanatory diagrams. By the end of the lectures, the students are given the word format of the lectures. LABORATORIES Most laboratories of the emergency are integrated into the tutorial sessions. The sessions are based on video and other animated media to provide a visual aid to help understanding different techniques used to manage patients. The primary purpose of the course is to help students how to provide the first aid support to patients in such emergency cases. Some sessions may include student presentations under the supervision of a staff member. General comments related to the laboratory portion of MLS 231: No food or drink will be permitted at any time. This regulation will be strictly enforced by your instructor, because it exists for your safety.
