Co:Writer Universal needs to be installed first before a student can create an account.
Co:Writer Universal includes:
• an app for iOS – compatible with iPad and iPhone
• an app for Chrome™ – compatible with Windows, Mac, and Chromebook platforms
• an extension for Chrome™ – compatible with Windows, Mac, and Chromebook platforms
• a desktop version – compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems
All products can be accessed and installed from their respective store, available through the links below.

Windows and Macintosh Desktop
Co:Writer Universal Desktop Installers were built for easier installation and quick deployment. Two installers, one for Macintosh and one for Windows PC that can be installed either locally on
individual desktop computers or through mass installation.
There is no need to request separate .msi “Windows” or .pkg “Macintosh” installers.
Note* Chrome does not download well via FTP.
It is recommended to use Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari for downloading Desktop installers.

You can also connect to the FTP server using any standard FTP Client such as FTPVoyager, WSFTP, or
CuteFTP. To connect using your FTP Client use the settings below.

Installing Co:Writer Universal Extension for Chrome
1. Launch the Chrome browser and navigate to the link below.

4. The extension will be downloaded and added to your Google Chrome extensions.
5. Wait for the orange dot on the icon in the top right corner of the Google Chrome browser to turn
red
, then click the button to bring up the Co:Writer Universal login screen.
6. Log in with an existing account or create a new account with the
code given to you by your Administrator or Educator.

Installing Co:Writer Universal App for Chrome

Installing Co:Writer Universal App for Apple iOS
The Co:Writer Universal app can be installed on your device through the App Store or using iTunes.
To install using your device:
1. Open the App Store on your device.
2. In the search box in the upper right, type “cowriter” and select “co:writer universal”
when it appears in the Suggestions dropdown.
3. Select the button, then select the button.
4. Enter your Apple ID and password and Click OK.
5. Your download will start shortly. Once the download
is complete, tap the icon on your device to launch
Co:Writer Universal.
To install using iTunes:
1. Open iTunes on your computer. Make sure you have the latest version.
To check for updates. Mac: Select iTunes from main menu > Check for Updates
Windows: Click Ctrl + B to show main menu > Help > Check for Updates
button.

Installing Co:Writer Universal Desktop for Windows
1. Download the CoWriter_Universal_Desktop_Windows.zip installer file by copy and pasting the link below into either Internet Explorer or Firefox web browser. Google Chrome has known issues with downloading files via FTP. ftp://cwu_win:win@downloads.DonJohnston.com
2. Single click on the CoWriter_Universal_Desktop_Windows.zip link to open the dialog box to choose to
either Open with or Save File.
3. It is recommended to choose Save File in order to reduce the chance of receiving an error during the
download and opening process. WARNING…Please be patient as the download process may take
several minutes to complete.
4. Once download is complete, navigate to the Downloads folder and double click
CoWriter_Universal_Desktop_Windows.zip file.
5. Double click the CoWriter Universal installer file to begin installation process.
6. Follow the installer prompts to complete installation.

Getting Started Using
Once you have received an activation code from your Administrator or Educator you will
need to create your own login account to start using Co:Writer Universal.
1. Launch Co:Writer Universal from your Chrome
Browser or Desktop device, this will load the
Sign In / Create Account window.
2. Click on
Create Account.
You can use a favorite login that you already have setup in Google, Facebook, Yahoo!,
Windows or create a new account in our system.
3. Enter the activation code that you received from your
Administrator or Educator.
4. Click on one of the boxes to create account using existing login.
OR
Click on the Create Account with Username & Password option.
5. Click on Create
