LL.M. IN LAW & GOVERNMENT
FELLOWSHIP
The LL.M. in Law & Government Fellowship is designed for exceptional students passionately committed
to their field of specialization. Successful applicants will have an exemplary academic background and a
demonstrated potential to excel in the LL.M. Program.
fellowship benefits*
 A partial tuition award between 1/3 and 1/2 of
the total tuition cost of the 24 credit LL.M.
program
 A paid Dean’s Fellowship (Research Assistant)
position with a faculty member or program at
WCL
 A designated Faculty Mentor and the
opportunity to write a research paper of
publishable quality
 The opportunity to conceptualize and plan a
panel discussion or conference within the
Fellow’s area of specialization
*May vary by fellowship.

Public Interest *Fellowships may not be awarded in all
specialization areas in a given year. Total number
of Fellowships awarded is dependent on the
quality of applicants and availability of research
assistant positions.

Submit a brief statement (one page singlespaced) explaining your interest in the
Fellowship. The statement should address your
choice of specialization, future career goals in
this field, and ideas on potential research
topics, conferences, panels, etc. to undertake as
part of the Fellowship.
Submit an 8-10 page writing sample that has
not been edited by anyone other than you.
Email the Fellowship Statement, Writing
Sample, and any other supplemental materials
as a Word or PDF attachment to
lawandgov@wcl.american.edu with
“Fellowship Application” in the subject line.
Applicants should include both first and last
name on each page of the supplemental
materials.
Applicants may also be interviewed by
Program Staff and Faculty.
