Newtest 300-series Powertimers PowertimerPC upgrade kit Connection unit installation manual © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 1 This document describes the upgrade of the Newtest Powertimer 300-series to the latest Generation 3 testing systems from the previous generations utilizing the Palm m105 or Palm Zire PDAs. Please read the manual carefully and familiarize your self to the installation process prior to the undertaking of the task. If you are not certain about any part of the process please contact Newtest Oy before you will begin the installation. Tools and materials needed: § Powertimer 300-series system § Torx TX9-screwdriver § 3-3,5mm flathead screwdriver § Connection unit for the PowertimerPC upgrade The installation process The PowertimerPC upgrade kit includes an updated connection unit. Therefore you will have to replace the existing Connection unit with the one supplied in the upgrade kit. To prevent any damage to the connection units, the battery must be inactivated first. Follow these steps. Open the screws of the faceplate on the right hand side of the Powertimer. Remove the faceplate. Lift up the battery tray. Unplug the RED lead from the battery. © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 2 Have the new Connection unit and tools on hand next to the Powertimer system. The plus (+) RED lead must be uplugged from the battery! Remove the left-hand faceplate srews Make sure that the screws are not lost. Remove the connection unit carefully. Turn the connection unit upside down. Be careful with the wiring! Place the new connection unit next to the old one. Make sure that the wiring is exactly the same as in the original set-up. Faulty wiring will damage the connection unit. © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 3 Remove the first (BLACK) lead from the old connection unit and attach it to the new connection unit Remove the 2nd (RED) lead from the old connection unit. Attach the RED lead to the new connection unit to the exact same connector. Remove the third lead (RED lead) from the old connection unit. Attach the 2nd RED lead to the new connection unit to the exact same connector. Remove the fourth (BLACK) lead from the old connection unit and attach the lead to the new connection unit to the exact same connector. © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 4 Note wiring sequence for the reaction lights: left lead BLACK, center lead GRAY and right lead RED. Remove all three leads prior to attaching them to the new connection unit. Remove the leads. Attach the leads to the new connection unit in the same sequence: BLACK to the left connector, GRAY in the middle connector and RED to the remaining right connector. © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 5 Check the wiring sequences for all leads. Make sure that they are securely connected. Turn the connection unit to its original position facing you. Place the connection unit to its orginal place to the briefcase. Screw in the TX9 screws. Do not tighten at this point of time. Reattach the positive (RED) lead to the battery and place the battery to the battery tray. After all TX9 screws are in place. Tighten with care! Too much force will break the faceplate! © Newtest Oy Version date 23.8.2006 6 Place the battery to its original place to the briefcase. Tighten the screws carefully. You have, now, completed the installation of the connection unit to the PowertimerPC. Please move on to the installation of the PowertimerPC software and the USB-to-serial adapter kit.
