CABLE GLAND SEALING TEST
The requirements for thermal endurance to heat and thermal endurance to cold prescribed in IEC60079-0 shall
be applied on samples assembled according to the manufacturer's instructions either with a mandrel or a cable
as required.
This test shall be carried out using, for each type of cable gland sealing device, one sealing ring from each of
the different permitted sizes. In the case of elastomeric sealing rings, each ring is mounted on a clean, dry,
polished mild steel cylindrical mandrel of diameter, equal to the smallest cable diameter permissible in the ring,
as specified by the manufacturer
of the cable gland.
In the case of metalic or composite sealing rings, each ring is mounted on the metal sheathof a clean dry
sample of cable, of diameter equal to the smallest diameter permissible in the ring, as specified by the
manufacturer of the cable gland.
The assemble is then fitted into the entry and torgue is applied to the screw or nut to obtain a seal under a
hydraulic pressure of 2000 kPa for Group I and 3000 kPa for Group II.
The seling is considered satisfactory if the blotting paper is free from any trace of leakage when the pressure
has been maintained at 2000 kPa for Group I or 3000 kPa for Group II for at least 10s.

Area Classification(IEC EN 60079-10)
Flammable Gases & Vapors
Zone 0
An area in which an explosive atmosphere occurs constantly present,
or over long periods.
Zone 1
An area in which an explosive atmosphere occurs in normal operations.
Zone 2
An area in which an explosive atmosphere occurs in normal operations
and It will exist for a short time if it occurs.
Combustible Dusts
Zone 20
An area in which combustible dust, as a cloud, is present continuously or
frequently, during normal operation, in sufficient quantity to be capable of
producing an explosive concentration of combustible dust mixture with air.
Zone 21
An area in which combustible dust, as a cloud, is occasionally present during
normal operation, in sufficient quantity to be capable of producing an
explosive concentration of combustible dust in a mixture with air.
Zone 22
An area in which combustible dust, as a cloud, may occur infrequently and
combustible dust may give rise to an explosive concentration of combustible
dust in mixture with air.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
IP(Ingress Protection class of enclosure) according to IEC-60529 standard
The test shall be carried out in accordance with IEC60529 as below, using one cable-sealing ring of each of the different
permitted sizes for each type of cable gland.
Group I - IP54 minimum
Group II - IP54 minimum
Group III - IP6X minimum
Group IIIC - IP6X minimum
Group IIIA or IIIC - IP5X minimum
For sealing tests, each sealing ring shall be mounted on a sample of clean, dry cable; or a clean, dry, polished, metal
mandrel, with a maximum surface roughness of 1,6 ㎛ Ra. Of a diameter equal to the smallest diameter allowable in the
ring as specified by the manufacturer of the cable gland. For the purpose of this test, the cable gland with cable or mandrel
shall be tested after being fixed to a suitable enclosure ensuring that the sealing method at the interface between the
gland and enclosure does not compromise the test results.

COLD FLOW CHARACTERISTICS
IEC 60079 - 14 Clause 9.1.4 states that The connection of cables and conduits to the electrical appartus shall be made in
accordance with the requirements of the relevant type of protection.
Care should be taken when selecting a suitable cable entry devise in conjunction with certain types of cable employing
materials which can exhibit "cold flow" characteristics.
By way of example "cable entry devices not employing compression seals which act upon parts(s) of the cable having cold
flow characteristics" should be employed.
"Low smoke and/or fire-resistant cables usually exhibit cold flow characteristics".
"Cold flow can be more fully described as thermoplastic materials which flow when subjected to pressure at ambient
temperature".
