HLM35V8E / HLD35V8E Manual Iris and DC-Type Auto Iris Varifocal Lenses INTRODUCTION Verify lens type and camera type before following installation instructions. DC-Type Auto Iris Mechanism: This lens does not have a built-in amplifier for auto-iris control. The DC voltage from the camera operates the iris of the lens. This lens can only be used in combination with a camera that has a built-in auto iris amplifier (DC-iris) or a camera that is switchable between video signal and DC-iris. Varifocal Lens: With a varifocal lens type, a variable focal distance enables different fields of view (zoom) with the same lens. After adjusting focal length, it is necessary to readjust the focus. This may also include resetting the backfocus. CABLE CONNECTION OF LENS CONNECTOR All Honeywell Video Systems auto iris lenses are equipped with a standard 4-pin connector to easily connect to Honeywell Video Systems cameras. F.5 Connector Cover Pin 3 Pin 1 Pin 4 If your camera does not support this standard or connector repairs are required, refer to Figure 1 for proper wire terminations for these lenses. If a bad connection occurs, both the lens and camera may malfunction and fail. Follow the diagram and table in Figure 1 carefully. Switch the AUTO IRIS lens type switch on your camera, if so equipped, to the DC position. 2. Set the electronic iris (EI) OFF. To attach the lens to the camera, turn the lens clockwise on the lens mount until it reaches the end travel. If the orientation of the lens is inconvenient because of the cable, the lens may be turned to the proper position by continuing in the clockwise direction. The lens clutch will allow approximately one additional revolution. Plug the auto iris connector into the camera. Rev. For best results, perform backfocus adjustments at night or while using a #6 or #8 welder’s glass in front of the lens. The focus of the camera will change slightly if the camera iris was adjusted on a light scene and then changes to a dark scene. However, the camera will remain in focus if the iris was focused on a dark scene and the scene lightens. To make backfocus adjustments, perform the following: 1. Mount the lens on the camera and apply power. 2. Open the camera iris by turning the lens level control counterclockwise. 3. If a picture is visible, focus on the scene. Open the lens as wide as possible by placing a welder’s glass in front of the lens. 4. When the iris is open to the widest point, readjust the focus for a clear picture. If a clear picture is not visible, set the focus ring to mid-range. 5. Loosen the backfocus lock screw. 6. Adjust the backfocus ring for a clear picture. 7. Tighten the backfocus screw lock. 8. Fine-tune the focus with the focus ring on the lens. 9. Remove the welder’s glass from in front of the lens. 10. Adjust the level control of the lens for the best picture quality.
