Checking a Proctored
Assessment’s
Settings….
Ensure an Assessment is
READY and Accessible
for students at the
Assessment Centers.
Angel is fairly granular but not
necessarily intuitive in the way it
allows settings to be used for
Assessments.
There are several settings to be
configured to insure a successful
experience at one of the five IRSC
Assessment Centers, or perhaps at
an off campus testing site.
Getting Started:
• While logged in as an instructor, mouse over the
word ‘settings’, located under a previously
created assessment. Click on ‘settings
Click on the Access
tab
A number of
settings will be
listed.
Look at the
checkbox beside
“Do not allow users
to view this item.”
This MUST to be unchecked or students will never be
able to take the test.
If this is checked no one but an editor/instructor will
see the document/test
This is the Correct Setting to enable
students to take the test
Password Box
Without a password,
the test is accessible for
anyone.
With a password filled in,
the exact password must
be entered to take the test.
Testing Director
Mr. Steven Daniello creates
and shares this password
list with testing personnel,
e-Learning staff, and faculty.
The passwords change
every month.
Instructors who are
teaching in an online
course must send an email
to sdaniello@irsc.edu to
receive the current list.
IF YOU COPY A TEST
FROM A PRIOR SEMESTER
– THE PASSWORD AND
ANY SET DATES MUST BE
Manually CHANGED to
the current password OR
will not have access to
the test.
And the Password Is…
Passwords are set
according to the
first date the test
is being offered.
Example list of Semester passwords:
Month #1 = pencil5
Month #2 = boot7
Month #3 = disk9
Month #4 = basket3
For example, If the test is scheduled
for July 30th and ends on August 2nd,
the assessment will use the password
designated for the month of July.
Viewable By: ‘TEAM Access’
‘Team Access’ is useful for creating additional versions of an assessment.
When additional teams are created, items may be granted access to these
teams.
Circumstances or conditions to use ‘Team Access’ include
a. To provide extended time for a student with special needs.
b. To provide access to a student who cannot for some reason come to one
of the Indian River State College Assessment Centers to take a required
exam. This designation or process is often referred to as Off Campus Testing.
c. The additional assessment is assigned to a *‘Team’ and only that *Team
will have access to that document. Additional assessments may also have
separate dates and conditions that suit the needs of the assigned team
members.
*You must first create a team under the Manage tab.
Students are assigned then assigned to a team. This tool can be utilized for
a number of applications in Angel, in addition to testing purposes
Under normal
conditions,
this dropdown
box should say
“All Teams”
for a proctored
exam with no
external
circumstances
attached.
Access Dates. On the Access tab are a Start Date and an End date setting. UNLESS YOU ARE GIVING A
SURPRISE “POP” QUIZ THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE START AND END DATE. These 2 settings only
control when a student can see the link to the test. It does not control when they can actually take the
assessment UNLESS you put a date in there, in which case it overrides the Interaction dates (to be
discussed later) and the test won’t show at all, no matter the other settings, except during the time
period marked by the start and end date. Again unless you want the test to be a surprise – leave these
blank.
Browser Security. If you are testing in the IRSC Assessment Centers, the
security setting must be set to High - Secure Browser. If you have any
questions about students doing a drop box submission or discussion post
as a “test”, contact Steven Daniello. Remote Testing is not delivered in IRSC
Assessment Centers, so these tests do not get the Secure Browser setting –
that will be discussed in another document for Remote Testing setup and
checking.
Interaction Tab. This is the setting that “counts.” Use Start Accepting Submissions and Stop
Accepting Submissions to control exactly when a student can take an exam.
FOR A TYPICAL EXAM, COPIED FROM A PRIOR SEMESTER ONLY THESE DATES AND THE
CORRECT NEW MONTH PASSWORD MUST BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY
TEST IN THE ASSESSMENT CENTER.
It is important to also
check the appropriate
year, date and time
when setting the
Interaction dates.
