Metering Packet:
• Metering Scheme Overview
– Allows engineers to validate meter setup and
site layout per the IFC drawings.
• Site Location / Directions (Map)
– List GPS coordinates, site address, driving
directions, and map to each site

• Metering 1-Line Drawing with POR (See Direct Telemetry BPM
Section 18 for required information to determine POR)
– Used to determine loss compensation for meters
• Metering Communication Drawing
– Provides overview of the network topology
– RIG Communication Block Diagram is acceptable
• IFC Drawings with CAISO revenue meter location(s) will be the
only acceptable drawings after DB59.

Meter Installation
Installation of CAISO Revenue Metering:
–
Must be an CAISO Approved Meter and the Initial Metering
package submittal must be approved. Approval shall come
from the CAISO Meter Engineering.

Meter installation may be performed by a qualified electrical
contractor or one of the approved turnkey metering
companies listed on CAISO.com:

Revenue Metering – Roles & Responsibilities
Who installs CAISO Revenue Meters?
– CAISO Metering Inspector or a qualified electrical contractor may
install the Revenue Meter socket and supporting equipment.
– CAISO Metering Inspector must program, test, and document
CAISO Metering Facilities.
– Resource owners shall contract a Meter Services company to
provide all aspects of CAISO metering test and maintenance.

Metering – Roles & Responsibilities
Resource Owner will:
– Own the CAISO Metering Facilities
– Maintain the CAISO Metering Facilities
– Ensure the accuracy of the meter data
– Submit the original prints and CAISO Metering Certification Form to
CAISO for review and approval
– Contract a CAISO Authorized Inspector to verify Metering Facilities
and submit Site Verification Forms to CAISO

– Most common section which create delays the collection and

– The IP Address and Port Number are required to be completed
on the certification form at -5B of the External Cutoff Date.
– Resource will be moved to the next FNM build if the IP Address
and Port Number is not given by the deadline.

communication problems will “stop” the
process needed to validate the data.
• It is up to the “owner” to resolve all issues in
order to resume progress and to contact
CAISO meter engineering to verify that all
required data has been received.
