Area Adventures included trips to Muir Woods, AT&T
Park, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, the Jelly Belly Factory,
the California Academy of Sciences, the Golden Gate
Bridge, and more. This year will offer another full schedule of fun and interesting trips. Enroll early as space is
limited and this class is likely to fill up fast!
o BASKETBALL CLINIC
July 8-July 12 • Open to: JH / HS
Instructor: Mark Kelley
Students who want to take their game to the next level
are invited to this week’s advanced basketball clinic. This
course is designed for players who already know the basics of the game and are looking to improve the technique
and hone their skills. Newcomers and casual players are
encouraged to enroll in the “Fundamentals” course (July
1 to July 5) as this week’s class offers a more intense and
rigorous challenge. Note: Interested students must be
cleared by Mark before signing-up for this course.

Our acclaimed, two-week “Bridges to Independence” program returns; teaching high school students independent living skills and assisting them with the transitions
involved with life after high school. This first week of the
course will focus on helping students explore their postsecondary options—whether finding a job or going to
school—and the steps needed to make a successful
transition. Students will participate in job search
activities, research career fields, develop a resume,
and take part in mock job interviews. Students will
also learn about various post-secondary school options and take day trips to visit two local college
campuses.
JULY 15
THROUGH
JULY 19
k VIDEO GAME MATHEMATICS
July 15-July 19 • Open to: LE / ME / UE
Instructor: Matt Keith
Note: This course is also being offered the week of July 22 to July
26. Interested students are welcome to enroll in the class for one
or both weeks; content will be modified accordingly.
Students build friendships as they play their favorite
console (Wii) and computer games together, while also
getting some stealth math tutoring. Between games, students will work directly with the instructor to review and
strengthen mathematics skills/concepts or preview new
skills and concepts for the upcoming school year.
k OUTDOOR PHOTO JOURNALING
July 15-July 19 • Open to: LE / ME / UE
Instructor: Maggie DeLoach
Note: An alternate version of this course, designed for older students, is being offered the week of July 22 to July 26.
Get ready to explore some of the beautiful Bay Area parks
and beaches and make the memories last. In addition to
going on day trips and nature hikes, students will learn
some of the tricks for taking excellent outdoor photographs. They will put those skills to practice throughout
the week and create an electronic photo album of their
adventures on the last day of camp.
k LUNCH AND A MOVIE
July 15-July 19 • Open to: ME / UE / JH / HS
Instructor: Nick Peruzzaro
Note: An alternate version of this course is being offered the
week of July 22 to July 26. The course’s concept will be the same,
though the films screened and meals cooked will be different.
Coming soon to a Summer School near you: Sci-fi, animation, action and adventure! Experience the joy of
screening and discussing the movies with your friends
and learn to cook some of your favorite foods and desserts. A daytime twist on “Dinner and a Movie,” this class
is a treat for movie lovers and foodies alike.
k BRIDGES: LIFE SKILLS WEEK
July 15-July 19 • Open to: HS and graduating seniors
Instructors: Meagan Cameron & John Montgomery
Note: This course is designed with a two-week curriculum, starting the week of July 8 to July 12. Students may enroll for only one
week, though signing-up for both weeks is preferred.
For many students with LD, the biggest post-graduation
challenges aren’t academic. Often, they involve learning
how to live independently, balance a budget, cook healthy
meals, reduce stress, make friends, and prepare for life
after graduation. During the second week of our “Bridges to Independence” program, students will learn
the fundamentals of living independently through
hands-on, guided activities. Students will learn the
basics of budgeting, plan meals, shop, and cook.
Additionally, the class will have fun participating
in local leisure activities while learning to navigate
around town on foot and via public transportation.

“Lights! Camera! Action!” is back and bigger than ever!
Jeff and John combine their vast knowledge of movies
and performance to assist student teams with writing,
filming, and editing their own short films. During this
second week, students will focus on writing, performing
and directing their movies in small groups and will work
together to edit the footage into a completed short. Using the skills learned in the previous week’s iMovie class,
the films will feature a soundtrack, special effects and
professional-style editing. See for yourself when the final
