UL Listing Document Program Requirements Intent To provide a single condensed document for installers, AHJs, and users about the features, functionality, programming, installation, compatibilities of a product and to reduce the amount of time and effort in reviewing large documents such as individual Installation, Operating, Programming manuals, etc… The ULLD is not intended to replace the need for all other supporting documentation. Participation in the program Participation is optional for the following categories (CCNs): • UOJZ • UXWK • UOXX • UXKV • UUKL • SYSW • UOQY • SYZV The ULLD is a condensed version of multiple, larger separate supporting documents which are usually associated with larger complex systems. Products that are simple and require very little documentation then participation in this program is neither viable nor beneficial. The Content of the UL Listing Document (ULLD) The ULLD is comprised of two general elements as follows: • A summation of all of the information needed to determine the scope of a UL Listing investigation for a given product (i.e. operation, programming options, compatibilities, etc.) • All of the required information needed in the documentation per UL864 and the UL Listing investigation (i.e. ratings resulting from testing, limitations or special instructions per the construction, etc.) 1 • The ULLD is a summation of the information necessary for the scope of the UL Listing investigation and required documentation per UL864 and is limited to that information. • The ULLD shall not reference documentation that is neither reviewed nor controlled by UL. The ULLD needs to be laid out in a specific format (see UL Listing Document Guide) and the basic elements of the ULLD are as follows: • Installation and Wiring Documents The information for wiring and hardware installation can be presented in any convenient and comprehensive way as long as it covers the entire product’s hardware. It can be one single wiring diagram, separate diagrams or any combination of those. All terminals including numbers and types of circuits along with the specific required information per circuit type as detailed in the template need to be included. If the installation instructions are not all inclusive (all products) and references other installation instructions for additional required details, then those installation instructions will be considered a UL controlled document and must be submitted for review. • Operation Information detailing the intended application(s) is under this section. The template attempts to detail most of the possible applications. This information can be presented in a format similar to the template or may use a different format, as long as the information is comprehensive for the applicable product. • Functionality This section addresses the intended function of the product. The list of functions in the template is for example only and is not intended to be inclusive. The next section of the template includes programming variables. It is not necessary to cover functionality in both the Functionality section and the Programming Option sections. For instance, automatic drift compensation would be covered here because no programming options would be available for that. On the other hand, AC delay might be covered under the Programming Option section because the delay time could be selectable. Any functionality information not covered under Operating instructions for normal standby, alarm, alarm test, alarm silence, alarm reset, trouble, trouble silence, off-normal position of switches, and functions of lights and switches needs to be covered here. • Programming Options This section addresses ALL of the available programming options for the product. The list of programming options in the template is an example only and is not intended to be inclusive. Where the field-programmable software of a product contains both complying as well as non-complying features or parameters as permitted in 54.1.2, the list shall be included in the front of the programming manual or the beginning of the program section of the ULLD as shown in the template. • Testing/Maintenance This section provides a brief description of the testing and maintenance for the system. Following is the minimal information that needs to be included here. Any testing/ maintenance issues not covered under the Operating Instruction section need to be included here. Information does not need to be included in both sections. • Compatibilities This section addresses other devices that can be connected to form the system to meet the intended application. The list in the template is an example only and is not inclusive. • System Configurations This section covers the configurations needed to meet the intended applications. The minimum and optional configurations are to be included here. The list in the template is an example only and is not inclusive. • System Power/Size This section covers the primary and secondary system power limitations. It also covers the limitations on maximum capacity for modules, appliances, etc. for addressable devices, modules, subassemblies, and network panels. The template provides examples and is not inclusive. 2 • One page Operating Instructions This is a stand-alone copy of the operating instructions required for control panels that are not intended to have an operator present. The description of the product operation is intended to be a brief summary of the details for an operator. Details beyond the summary need to be in the Functionality section of the ULLD. The description of system maintenance procedure is intended to be a brief summary of the maintenance. Details beyond the summary need to be in the Testing/Maintenance section of the ULLD. The Operating Instructions shall include its own unique part number and revision level /date which will be referenced in the product marking and controlled via the UL Report. If the Operating Instructions are integrated within the ULLD, it shall be easily removable. Control and Review of the ULLD • The ULLD is a controlled document as follows: • The ULLD is completely reviewed by UL and it is controlled via the UL Report. • The ULLD is stored as an electronic attachment in the UL files. • The ULLD has its own unique part number and revision/ date level that must change every time changes are made to the document. • The ULLD must be referenced in the product marking. • Required content in Sections 90.1 thru 90.12 of UL864 must be in printed form and shipped with the product. • Required content in Sections 90.15 thru 90.24 of UL864 can be in any of the following formats: – Integral with the printed document containing Sections 90.1 thru 90.12 (required to be shipped with product and controlled via the UL Report ) – A separate printed document (not required to be shipped with product but still controlled via the UL Report) – Electronic instruction within the basic product software (not required to be shipped with product, but still controlled via the UL Report) – Electronic media such as CD, Website, memory drive, etc…(not required to be shipped with product, but still controlled via the UL Report) Changes to the ULLD need to be processed in the following manner: • A Listing investigation will need to be opened to make the changes to the ULLD. • When changes are made to the ULLD, UL must be presented with the details of all changes made to the ULLD. This is best done by red line changes to the old revision level of the document. Other ways to detail the change information are acceptable provided they accomplish that in a clear and comprehensive fashion. • The revision process will be limited to one change iteration. If UL comments result from the first review of the ULLD, changes are to be resubmitted to UL and then verbal agreements will resolve them. A red lined copy with the agreed changes will be stored as the attachment in the file. Documentation consistency • The ULLD is the controlled document that complies with the requirements of the standard. By utilizing the ULLD, the client acknowledges that UL has not read or evaluated any other information or documentation that is published by the Applicant, Listee, or Manufacturer concerning the installation or use of the product. If any such information or documentation that is published by the Applicant, Listee, or Manufacturer conflicts with the ULLD, the ULLD shall control. Transition • It is recommended for Applicants that elect to participate in the ULLD program that they approach UL early about pending revisions. These actions will aide both parties in the transition process. • When the details of changes to the ULLD are provided to UL, UL must be provided with a signed statement that all changes in the ULLD have been itemized for UL. Handling of the uncontrolled supporting documentation • Documentation that is not controlled by UL, can be supplied via any format. 3 UL and the UL logo are trademarks of UL LLC © 2012, NG-0310 07/12
