General information
about the anti-theft
alarm
The anti-theft alarm consists
of an immobiliser and an alarm
function with motion sensor.
The immobiliser prevents unauthorised starting of the engine;
the alarm function triggers an
alarm in response to any attempt
to move the motorcycle, change
its position or disconnect the
starter battery.
The sensitivity of the system is
parameterised so that slight vibrations will not trigger the alarm.
You can change some of the
alarm system's parameters to
suit your personal preferences.
Conserving battery power
In order to conserve the power
of the starter battery and ensure
that the motorcycle will start, the
anti-theft alarm automatically
switches off the alarm function
a few days after being activated.
In most cases, however, it will
remain active for at least seven days. The immobiliser is not
switched off.
Radio interference
Radio systems or devices transmitting on the same frequency
as the remote control of the antitheft alarm can interfere with operation of the system. If problems of this nature occur, point
the remote control toward the
motorcycle from another direction.
Splashproofness
The remote control is splashproof, but not waterproof. BMW
recommends protecting the remote control against heavy rain
in order to ensure that it remains
operational.

Anti-theft alarm status LED
on the motorcycle
See your Rider's Manual
for details of the position of
the status-indicator LED on the
motorcycle.
The anti-theft alarm is supplied
complete with a sealed envelope containing the code card 1.
The number stated on the code
card (remove the adhesive label)
is the code for deactivating the
anti-theft alarm by means of the
ignition.
The code number is stamped in
encrypted form on the anti-theft
alarm and it is also printed on an
adhesive label 2 included in the
scope of supply. You should affix
the label at a concealed location
on the motorcycle.
If you forget the code and are
unable to find the code card,
an authorised BMW Motorrad
dealer will be able to forward the
encrypted number to BMW on
your behalf and obtain the correct code.

Switch off the ignition.
The 'activation on ignition OFF'
mode has to be programmed.
You can program the following
modes:
Automatic activation of the immobiliser without alarm function
(default)
Automatic activation of the immobiliser with alarm function.
Programming anti-theft alarm
( 14).
It takes 50 seconds for the
programmed functions to go
active. The status LED remains
off during this time.
Activation takes another
15 seconds, during which
time the status LED quickflashes (0.1 second on, 0.5
second off). The LED does not
flash if only the immobiliser is
activated.
When activation completes the
turn indicators flash twice and
the acknowledgement tone
sounds twice (if programmed).
The anti-theft alarm is now active and the status LED slowflashes (0.1 second on, 0.9
second off) to indicate this
status. The LED does not flash
if only the immobiliser is active.
Activation with remote
control
Press button 1 on the remote
control.
The remote control always activates both the immobiliser
and the alarm function.
Activation takes 15 seconds,
during which time the status

When activation completes the
turn indicators flash twice and
the acknowledgement tone

The anti-theft alarm is now active and the status LED slowflashes (0.1 second on, 0.9
second off) to indicate this
status.

Switch off the ignition.
If the alarm tone sounds four
times after activation, this indicates that the internal battery in
the anti-theft alarm is in a low
state of charge. No alarm will be
triggered if the anti-theft alarm

transported
If you want to transport your
motorcycle by train or on a
trailer, for example, it is advisable
to switch off the motion

disconnection of the anti-theft
alarm from the motorcycle's
battery (internal battery in the
anti-theft alarm provides power
- alarm tone only, the turn indicators do not flash)
All functions are sustained even if
the internal battery of the antitheft alarm system is flat, the
only difference is that an alarm
cannot be triggered if the system
is disconnected from the motorcycle's battery.

If only the immobiliser is active,
no alarm is triggered if the ignition is switched on without the
anti-theft alarm being deactivated
beforehand. Instead, the status
LED lights up.
Pressing button 2 a second time
deactivates the anti-theft alarm.
While an alarm is in progress an
alarm tone sounds and the turn
indicators flash. You can program
the type of alarm tone.
Alarm
Reason for an alarm
z
An alarm lasts for 26 seconds.
The system is active again another 12 seconds later. You can
interrupt an alarm at any time by
pressing button 2 on the remote
control. This function does not
change the status of the antitheft alarm.
Once you have deactivated the
anti-theft alarm, the anti-theft
alarm status LED is active for a
period of one minute to show
you reasons for alarms, if any,
that were triggered in your absence:
Flashes 1x: motion sensor
Flashes 2x: Attempt to switch
on the ignition while anti-theft
alarm was primed
Flashes 3x: Disconnect of the
anti-theft alarm from the motorcycle's battery
The status signal stops after one
minute, or as soon as you switch
on the ignition. If more than one
alarm was triggered, the flashing codes indicate all the reasons. If at some subsequent time
you want to check the reason
for the most recent triggering of
the alarm, proceed as described
below.

Registration of the
remote control
When is it necessary to
register a remote control?
If you want to register an additional remote control or register
a remote control as a replacement for one that has been mislaid, you must always register all
the remote control units with the
anti-theft alarm. You can register
a maximum of four remote control units.
In order to ascertain how many
remote control units have been
registered, observe the anti-theft
alarm status LED on the motorcycle after you switch off the ignition. The number of times the
LED flashes corresponds to the
number of remote control units
registered.
Registering remote
control
To register a remote control
unit: enter the code number as
described below:
Deactivate the anti-theft alarm
and switch on the ignition.
Within 4 seconds, switch

Synchronisation
When is it necessary to
synchronise the remote
control?
The remote control has to be
synchronised if the buttons of
the remote control have been
pressed more than 256 times
outside the receiver's range.
Once this limit has been reached,
the receiver on the motorcycle
will no longer react to the signals
from the remote control.

Dispose of the old battery in
accordance with all applicable
laws and regulations; do not
attempt to dispose of batteries
as domestic waste.
Using a battery of the
wrong type or inserting the
battery with the polarity reversed
can cause irreparable damage to
the device.
Use only the specified type of
battery (see "Technical Data").
When inserting the battery,
always make sure polarity is
correct.
Slip the new battery into position, making sure that the positive terminal of the battery is
facing up.
Position the bottom part of the
