Bare aluminum conductors, especially in the form of Aluminum Conductors Steel Reinforced(ACSR), have been widely used for overhead transmission lines as the most cost-effective and dependable product. As the name implies, ACSR is a concentrically stranded conductor composed of one or more layers of hard-drawn EC grade aluminum wires over a high strength coated steel core. The core may be single wire or stranded, depending on the size. Because of the numerous stranding combinations of aluminum and steel wires that may be used, it is possible to vary the portions of aluminum and steel so as to obtain the most suitable relation between current carrying capacity and mechanical strength for each application. For instance, a conductor having a small proportion of steel may be most economical for a wood pole line to transmit a large block of power whereas a conductor with a very large proportion of steel would be required for a long span crossing over water. Between these two extremes are the conductors with normal proportions of aluminum and steel generally used for the more conventional transmission and distribution lines. Anti-corrosion A.C.S.R. Anti-corrosion ACSR is used in the corrosive areas like coastal areas or industrial zones. This ACSR is filled with anti-corrosive grease applied on the gaps between stranded wires and their external surfaces. Generally, anti-corrosion ACSR is divided into three types according to the method of greases coating : Light Anti-corrosion Type : Only steel wires are coated Medium Anti-corrosion Type : All the inner layers are coated Heavy Anti-corrosion Type : All the inner and outer layers are coated Light Anti-corrosion Type Medium Anti-corrosion Type Heavy Anti-corrosion Type (ACSR-LZ) (ACSR-MZ) (ACSR-HZ) Grease Grease Grease TAIHAN Overhead Electrical Aluminum Conductors 3 Typical Construction for A.C.S.R. Remarks 1. The values of Table are those at 20 . 2. The values of calculated sectional area, outside diameter and weight are those for the standard diameters of individual wires. The electric resistance is calculated for the standard diameter, by assuming the conductivity of the hard-drawn aluminum wires at 61% and neglecting the galvanized steel wires. 3. The sectional area of hard-drawn copper stranded conductor with equivalent resistance is calculated by assuming the conductivity of the hard-drawn copper wires at 97% and that of the hard-drawn aluminum wires for electric purposes at 61% and neglecting the length increase by stranding. 4. The ratio of length increase by stranding to be used for calculating the weight and electric resistance shall be as follows : Construction of Cable Aluminum Wires 54 30 26 2 Steel Wires 7 7 7 1 Ratio of Length lncrease by Stranding(%) Aluminum Wires Steel Wires 2.7 0.5 2.7 0.5 2.6 0.5 1.4 0 5. The tensile load is calculated as 90% of the sum of the minimum tensile load of hard-drawn aluminum wire for electric purposes multiplied by the number of aluminum component wires and tensile load of galvanized steel wire multiplied by the number of steel component wires. Unless otherwise specified or agreed with in case of order, ACSR shall be shipped on Taihan standard wooden reels having dimensions and weights as given in the table shown below. Taihan standard wooden reels shall have enough condition to stand against the ordinary handling in transportation and shipping and be found ready and handy enough at the time of installation in site. Especially, in case that users require the metal reel, we can serve our standard metal reels which have the same capacity as that of the wooden reel or special designed metal reels. The reels will be stenciled legibly with following information; serial number, size and kind of conductor, length of conductor, and any other indentification marks specified on the order by the purchaser. (N), which is defined as that force which, when applied to a body having a mass of 1kg, gives it an acceleration of 1m/s2. The derived SI unit for pressure or stress is the newton per square meter(N/m2), which has been named the pascal(Pa) by the General Conference of Weights and Measures. Since 1ksi=6894757Pa the metric equivalents are expressed as megapascal(MPa), which is the same as Mn/m2 and N/mm2. 1ksi = 103psi 1psi = 6.9KPa 1ksi = 6.9MPa 60 Overhead Electrical Aluminum Conductors
