Introduction
and Overview
Who Are We
We are a NZQA accredited and registered private training
provider based in sunny Dunedin with nationwide coverage.
We have trainers based in all main centres and travel
extensively across New Zealand to secondary schools to
deliver our courses. We started delivering STAR and Gateway
courses into secondary schools in 2007. Since then we
have grown slowly but steadily and we now work with over
150 secondary schools across New Zealand. We work in
partnership with a number of other NZQA providers to be
able to deliver a wide range of quality training.
The Lead Team comprises
•
•
Piet van de Klundert Director - (Bachelor Arts, Bachelor
Management and Innovation, Diploma in Adult
Teaching, Member of NZ Institute of Directors) who has
had extensive experience in working with at risk youth,
community development, teaching/training as well as
leading organisations.
Erin Thomson Academic Manager/Schools Liaison (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Teaching/Education (SEC))
brings her experience as a secondary school teacher as
well as a wide range of skills in the hospitality industry
to her role.
•

experienced and qualified teacher/trainer bringing years
of professional practice to our team.
•

sector, working for our company since 2011. Laura
is responsible for managing all reporting and
administrative requirements.
Students
Our training delivery is empowerment based. We use a
model of encouragement, equality and active engagement.
We believe this is the best way to encourage success.
We treat all of our students as adults. At the start of each
course we state “You are here by choice.” Our procedure
for dealing with misconduct is two warnings, a sit out for
five minutes followed by an apology. If further misconduct
continues the student is asked to leave. The school is
contacted immediately. In the years we have been delivering
courses into schools we have only ever had one stand down
in over eight thousand students.
If a student has literacy or numeracy issues we MUST be
informed prior to the course. If a reader writer is required
please contact us to make arrangements prior to the course.
We expect students to be attired in either school uniform or
casual smart attire.
Our Trainers
We have a combination of full time and part time contract
trainers that bring a wealth of industry experience and
teaching skills to their roles. All of our people are committed
to going the extra mile to ensure the learning experience
is rewarding and every student has access to success. Our
team is made up of a number of secondary school trained
teachers and industry experts.
Details
All schools sign a Memorandum of Understanding with
us. There is a copy at the back of this prospectus for you to
have a look at. If we use another provider’s accreditation we
will give you the provider code when we send the students’
results through to you. All students’ gain a certificate for
successful attainment of competency in the unit standards
they have completed.
Pre Course Work & NYC Assignments
Most of our courses require pre course work to be completed
before attendance. Some courses require post work course
to be completed or work to be completed outside the
delivery time. This is the responsibility of each student to
complete and is explicit on the course information in the
following pages.
NYC Assignments
Although we want all students to achieve competency on
our courses they don’t always due to a number of factors.
We will send NYC assessments back to the student’s school
contact (STAR/Gateway) for it to be reassessed. Please be
aware that achieving a positive result for your student is
as important to us as it is to you. We will work with you to
ensure this occurs.
Courses
All courses are run as NZQA unit standards. We possess most
units ourselves or have a Memorandum of Understanding
with another provider or ITO to be able to deliver the units in
the STAR and Gateway context. A copy of the Memorandums
of Understanding with our partner providers are available to
you to have on file.
Courses are run either at your school or at one of our training
venues across New Zealand. We have an affiliation with
Sporting Clubs NZ to make use of their venues. All premises
meet our venue vetting process. We will discuss with you
what the best venue option is when you book your course.
Often schools will combine to run a course. Amazing things
happen when you bring groups of students from different
schools together. Minimum number for class bookings is 14.
Delivery tends to be over consecutive days however we are
happy to discuss delivery options with you. It could be that
your transition or hospitality class has one afternoon free a
week or two periods a fortnight for vocational training. Give
us a call to discuss what works for your people.
Cost
Most courses cost $100.00 + gst per day. If you want us to
report the credits each credit cost $4.50 to report.
Invoices are to be paid on the 20th of the month following
the training. As some courses take longer to mark, moderate
and send certificates for the invoice is still required to be
paid on the 20th.
Attendance & Cancellations
We charge the full price for students that do not attend
courses. If a student is ill we still need to be notified
either by the student or by the school. We suggest you
supply students with our 0880 880 415 number prior to
attendance.
If a course is booked we charge for the number of students
confirmed with the school not the number of students that
have turned up unless we have been notified beforehand.
Cancellations of a course must be made within 10
working days of the course – a 10% fee will apply
if the course hasn’t been rescheduled.
