Sterilant for aseptic packaging on Tetra Pak’s Immersion type machines Application Aseptic processing represents a major advance over alternative forms of sterilization and shelf-stability. It allows perishable items to be shipped and stored without refrigeration, saving costs through every step of the supply chain. Aseptic also provides consumers a higher quality and better tasting product than conventional bottling and canning. In terms of health and wellness, aseptic generally retains a third more vitamins and nutrients than the “old” canning and bottling technologies. Aseptic packaging equipments apply hydrogen peroxide on the surface of packaging material just prior to filling. This ensures that the food product (which is sterilized separately by UHT process) will not be contaminated by microorganisms from the packaging. Description TETRAMATE 35 is a Food grade oxidant, formulated to suite the unique specifications required by Tetra Pak’s Aseptic Filling machines to achieve the desired microbial reduction. TETRAMATE 35 is used on these machines without dilution. Advantages • • • • • • TETRAMATE 35 is made from high purity hydrogen peroxide as an active ingredient. Precisely stabilized peroxygen to sustain elevated operating temperatures during packaging. It has the right combination of ingredients to perform disinfection of packing material with minimum deposition on machine parts. TETRAMATE 35 gives minimal residue deposition on hot squeegee rollers & spray nozzles, which maintains regular operation time between cleaning cycles. Finished packed products are having very good quality after 14 days incubation period. No residual peroxide is found in packed product during normal machine operation. Specification TETRAMATE 35 is an optimized mix of special stabilizers and high purity Hydrogen peroxide and it is compliant with US-FDA codex & TISI – 897-2539 standards. TETRAMATE 35 is suitable for all Tetra Pak filling machines with bath technology (both deep bath and shallow bath) i.e. A3, TBA and A1 filling machines. It complies with the specifications shown in Table 1 Additional Specifications: TETRAMATE 35 concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the tank of filling machine does not drop below 30% w/w during at least 120 hours of machine operation (e.g. 1 week of production on 3 shifts) The frequency of maintenance to be performed on the machine (cleaning of spraying nozzles and rollers after the bath) does not increase due to reasons relating to TETRAMATE 35 quality. Additional specs are subject to following compliance by the machine users: • Machine’s Peroxide contact surfaces are kept passivated at least once a year. • Spare parts from Tetra Pak be used and should be compatible with H2O2. • Daily / weekly check for H2O2 filter to remove and wash it as per Tetra Pak recommendation to avoid contamination that can lead to H2O2 decomposition. • H2O2 refill container is kept clean. • Packaging material should not be exposed to dirt/dust. Storage, Handling & Safety • • • • • • • • • • • • • Store in vented container in cool, dry and ventilated place. Use compatible materials for handling (e.g: Teflon, 304/316 SS) Use dedicated equipments (e.g: pump and pipes) in delivery system. Store in original container equipped with vents. Keep containers/drums upright. Avoid contamination of any kind. (e.g: dirt, caustic, reducing agents and metals) Never return unused portions of H2O2 to original container Keep lid closed when not in use. Avoid elevated temperatures. Do not store H2O2 drums on wooden pallets or near combustible materials. Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves and shoes. Handle spills by dilution with water. In case of contact with skin/eyes, immediately wash with plenty of water. (Ask for Material Safety Data Sheet for information concerning exposure, emergency first aid and disposal.)
