Julius Caesar Body Biography
POSTER DIRECTIONS: Demonstrate and in-depth understanding of a character from Julius Caesar. Your
task is to create a body biography – a visual portrait illustrating several aspects of a character’s life
within a literary work. Be sure to represent the character’s virtues and vices throughout the entire play.
What are your character’s most admirable qualities? His/her worst? How can you make us visualize
them?
PRESENTATION DIRECTIONS: It will be your job to use your visual body biography as a teaching tool for
the class about your chosen character. Present your poster to the class by explaining the each of your
chosen symbols, quotes, and ideas behind your visual display. Be sure to give the class an overview of
your character and the decisions that you made when creating your poster.

Grading Rubric – Body Biography Poster Project
POSTER
Total: _________ / 50 PTS
______ 10 pts Symbols – Use at least five figurative symbols that will illustrate the essence of your
character (e.g. think of figurative representations like objects and animals to include in your image)
______ 10 pts Quotations – Use at least five quotations by (or about) your character. These must
capture important thoughts/feelings and be thoughtfully selected.
______ 10 pts Placement – Carefully place your symbols and quotations so that there is meaning. Read
through the body biography presentation on Google Drive to think about the symbolic meaning of each
body part. What would go in your character’s mouth, spine, mind, feet, hands, etc.?
______ 10 pts Mood – Create a mood similar to the character’s mood by using color. Colors are often
symbolic. What color(s) do you most associate with your character? Why? How can you effectively
weave these colors into your presentation?
______ 10 pts Neatness – Artistic ability will not be graded, but neatness will. A good idea is to create a
rough sketch of your poster before you begin working on it and to use pencil when you begin working.

Total: _________ / 30 PTS

will present your ideas. Your presentation should flow naturally from one idea to the next. You can
organize your presentation in any order that you would like, but make sure that there is a logical order
to it. Consider: Will you discuss the character overall first? Will you end by explaining the chosen colors?
Will you go through each part of the body individually and describe all symbols and quotes associated
with those body parts?
______ 5 pts Delivery – It will be your task to hold the attention of the entire audience with the use of
direct eye contact, fluctuation in volume and inflection to emphasize key points and show enthusiasm,
and by seldom looking at your note cards – Remember to look up during your presentation!
______ 5 pts Knowledge – At the end of your presentation, you will be asked questions by your peers
about your project and choices that you have made. Be prepared to show knowledge and understanding
by answering these questions directly and accurately.
