UPDATE: Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)
The AQHI reports health risks associated with six
air pollutants:
• Ozone
• Fine particulate matter
• Nitrogen dioxide
• Sulphur dioxide
• Carbon monoxide
• Total reduced sulphur compounds
The AQHI is a tool that indicates the level of health
risk associated with local air quality and advises the
at-risk and general population about when to
reduce or modify outdoor activity.
Attached is a copy of the AQHI that can be posted
in your office waiting room.

difficulties include:
• children
• elderly
• anyone with cardiac conditions (e.g. angina,
myocardial infarction, congestive heart
failure, arrhythmia)
• anyone with lung disease (chronic

When the AQHI value is ≥7:
At risk groups should reduce or reschedule
strenuous outdoor activity.
When the AQHI value is ≥10:
All individuals should reduce or reschedule
strenuous outdoor activity.
