These clamps are being used extensively in the mining industry. Some of the major advantages are shown below: 1. 2. 3. 4. Can be installed on cables already in services, i.e. split construction. The rubber inserts cushion the cable while providing a secure grip. No steel strands in contact with the cable to penetrate the cable jacket. Replaces Kellam grips, rope and strain relief methods on shovels, draglines, drills, pole drops and underground equipment. Complete Listing of Strain Relief Clamps Offered 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. A list of the individual types is shown below. We also manufacture special clamps to either our own, or customer specifications. POLYURETHANE Type PLW-X Manufactured from polyurethane, these “Arrowhead” clamps are designed for use at substations, cable couplers, pole drops, and anywhere a flexible attachment is required. Type PRW-X The “Football” clamp is similar to the PLW-X clamp, but with a recessed strain collar and a nylon or polypropylene sling. This permits the clamp to be used in areas where other clamps may do damage to the cable itself, for example in a cable reel application. Type VLW-X Polyurethane wedge inserts combine with a steel housing to provide positive clamping of the cable when a constant tension is applied. These clamps are used at pole drops, mine shafts, and other vertical applications. Type PHW-X The “TORPEDO” is generally used in conjunction with the “SATELLITE” or similar device near an excavation shovel. The clamp is applied to the cable itself connected to the “SATELLITE” (or similar device). When the shovel bucket lifts the “SATELLITE”, the cable is protected against severe bending by the “TORPEDO”. Please refer to section 9 of our main catalogue for more information. Type F14W-X The “STINGER CLAMP” is designed specifically for relieving the tension on the tail cable at the rear of the shovel. The clamp is welded to the stinger of the shovel. The rubber liners may be changed to accommodate cable of different sizes. Type RC14W-X The Road Crossing Support series of clamps are designed to support the cable in a gentle curve, (no less than that recommended by the cable manufacture) when hoisted to cross a main haul road. End clamps ensure that the cable will not slip. Along with the Rope Brake (CSL-001) and pulleys, the RC14W forms part of our Road Crossing Support System found in section 9 of this catalogue. Also, due to its reinforced design, the Road Crossing Support may be used for towing cable behind a light duty truck for quick repositioning, similar to the cable D-Ring below. ALLOY STEEL Type CDR-36 The Mine Cable Services Cable D-Ring is a heavy duty aluminum constructed device that is designed to hold trailing cable securely in position while being relocated. The CDR is able to accommodate cable up to 3.500”. The cable is held in position with a heavy duty, adjustable pressure clamp. OTHER MATERIALS Type WCSS-X The Wrap Around Cable Support Sleeve is fabricated from heat shrink material and is applied as a permanent strain relief clamp. It may be used at switch houses, coupler or shovel locations, or at pole drops. Once applied the clamp cannot be re-used. Steel Base Assembly 2. Polyurethane Wedges 3. Cable The welded steel housing has two main components; the body and a cross latch which ensures that the cable tension does not cause the steel body to deform. The body is installed on mine shaft timbers and the cable trained into the cavity. Once all cable clamps and the cable are in place, the polyurethane wedges are inserted around the cable from the top opening and driven into place. The main cable clamp restraint is loosened and the cable is allowed to settle into the distributed cable “V” shaped cable clamps. The clamp eliminates all other forms of vertical support. Each body and wedge assembly is designed for a small range of cable diameters. This ensures the user that a particular cable is supported within a close tolerance. Other uses are vertical pole drops in mine and utility applications, the support of vertical pipe runs or horizontal cable runs where cable tension is reasonably constant. The curved cradle eliminates cable damage, while the adjustable clamp reduces cable slippage. This is an effective way to move your cable around the worksite while keeping a safe bending radius and offering adequate strain relief. The MCS Cable D-Ring is light weight in design and is intended for storage in the back of a minesite vehicle, for quick application when a temporary strain relief clamp is required.
