SAPGUI 7.30 Installation STUDENT INSTALLATION DOCUMENT Purpose: Installation of SAPGUI for use with the UW-Milwaukee UCC hosting center. The installer file ‘SAPGUI_INST_730.EXE’ will install the latest version of SAPGUI (including BEX tools, KW tools, ECL, and relevant patches) and our saplogon.ini file (needed for access to our servers). Supported Platforms: - Preparation: UWM SAP UCC Windows XP Professional 32bit - restricted support Windows XP Professional 64bit - restricted support Windows Vista 32bit (only "Business", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) restricted support Windows Vista 64bit (only "Business", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) restricted support Windows 7 32bit (only "Professional", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) Windows 7 64bit (only "Professional", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) Windows 8 32bit (only "Professional", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) supported as of patch level 1 Windows 8 64bit (only "Professional", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions) supported as of patch level 1 It is no longer required that previous versions of the SAPGUI be uninstalled; however, not removing the prior locally stored .ini files will allow them to also populate your sapgui server list. It is suggested that you remove or back up previous versions of the saplogon.ini file. On Windows XP, this file can be found in C:\windows or C:\documents and settings\[your user name]\application data\SAP\common – or C:\Windows, though I suggest using the same method used on vista and windows 7 to be sure. On Vista and Windows 7 operating systems, you need to search for and delete all copies of this file, hidden files and folders need to be enabled in the control panel (start -> control panel -> appearance and personalization -> Folder Options – in view tab and radio button “show hidden files and folders”). Then search your computer for the file saplogon.ini and remove or back them up before installing. If you have not already done so, please contact the instructor of your course to discuss how you can obtain this file. Once you have the installer program, execute it by right clicking the icon pictured below and choose the option ‘Run as Administrator’: This will bring up SAP’s extraction notification, which depending on your machine can run for a few minutes. Once the extraction is complete, you will be presented with the following window. Confirmation: Although it is not required, you should REBOOT your computer at this time. This allows any pending registry entries to finalize and the temp files to clear out. You should then have two new menu items in your Start Menu -> Programs area. ‘Business Explorer’ and ‘SAP Front End’. To make sure our front end installed correctly, please open the program ‘SAP Logon’ from Start Menu -> Programs -> SAP Front End. You should see the screen below: UWM SAP UCC Page 5 of 6 October 02, 2012 If you are unable to get to this point, please contact your instructor for further support. If you need to keep your current saplogon.ini file for other servers, make sure to back up your local saplogon.ini file before installation – when you open sapgui after installation – you should see all of our centrally managed entries at the top in grey and your local entries at the bottom in black.
