Evidence requirements are to be satisfied in the
workplace environment(s) or an equivalent environment
closely resembling a real workplace.

enterprise procedures based on:
a quality management systems;
b designer’s requirements and manufacturer’s
operating instructions; and
c government and local government legislation,
regulations, and bylaws.

Those undertaking assessment against this unit
standard should note that work in the industrial rope
access industry usually takes place at heights well
above ground level, and therefore requires a relevant
level of physical fitness and ability to work at heights.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is
not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
1992 (HSE) and consequential standards:
• AS/NZS 1891:1995 Industrial fall-arrest systems
and devices
• AS/NZS 4488:1997 Industrial rope access systems.
In addition, candidates should be familiar with industry
codes, guidelines, and requirements in the industrial
rope access industry.
Elements and Performance Criteria

Prepare site for setting up industrial rope access system.
performance criteria
1.1
Site is isolated in accordance with enterprise procedures.
1.2
Safety procedures, hazard management and signage are all implemented in
accordance with enterprise procedures and HSE requirements.
1.3
Exclusion zones are set out in accordance with enterprise procedures and HSE
requirements.

Install industrial rope access system.
performance criteria
2.1
Knots are tied in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Range:
bowline, figure eight, figure eight on the bight, threaded figure
eight, clove hitch, tape knot, figure nine, fisherman’s knot, alpine
butterfly, prussic knot.

2.2
Industrial rope access and rescue systems are installed in accordance with
planned hazard management and control measures.
2.3
Completed industrial rope access system is confirmed as compliant with design
and statutory requirements.
2.4
Site is left clear of surplus equipment and tools in accordance with enterprise
procedures.

Inspect industrial rope access system as ready for use.

Access system is inspected and confirmed as safe for use.

Dismantle industrial rope access system.

4.1
Industrial rope access system is dismantled in accordance with enterprise
procedures.
4.2
Industrial rope access system is confirmed free of damage and wear.
4.3
Any damaged equipment is labelled, isolated, and logged in accordance with
enterprise procedures.
4.4
Equipment is stored in accordance with enterprise procedures.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority or a delegated interinstitutional body before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards
or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
