Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Transportation Systems
Engineering / Asset Management
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University invites
applications for a faculty position in the area of transportation systems engineering and/or
asset management. The position is expected to begin in September 2015 or thereafter. The
appointment is open to ranks at Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor level.
The candidate should possess demonstrated excellence in original research and strong
fundamental knowledge in a core research area. Areas of interest include, but are not limited
to: (a) transportation systems operations and management; (b) railway engineering; (c)
transportation engineering and traffic control; (d) infrastructure management, maintenance,
risk and reliability analysis; and (e) renewable energy in transportation (e.g., electric
vehicles). Those pursuing positions at the Professor / Associate Professor levels should have
a strong track record in research including demonstrated abilities to secure competitive
funding. Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the level of
Assistant Professor. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and
conduct original research that leads to publications in top-tier refereed journals.
Responsibilities will also include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels,
curriculum development of the undergraduate program in Transportation Systems
Engineering

supervising student projects and theses, as well as other departmental duties.
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant
Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is
subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at
Associate Professor and Professor levels. Applicants should state their current and expected
