manual, may cause interference to radio communications. It has been
tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A computing
device pursuant to subpart B of part 15 of FCC rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference when

INTRODUCTION
1
Remote Control Panels have the same buttons as the front panels
of their matching multiplexers. They can also be used with some
older multiplexers even though some button names do not match.
The panels allow locating a duplicate set of controls up to 1,000
feet from the multiplexer. A Remote Control Panel is connected
to the multiplexer with a standard four-wire modular telephone
extension cable.
One Remote Control Panel can control up to 16 daisy-chained
multiplexers (one at a time).
The package contains the following items:

Remote Control Panel
50-foot modular cable
base (desk mount) and screws
split ferrite clamps
power supply
“ears” for rack mounting
local-end adapter*
*Used on multiplexers with DB25 remote connectors. Local-end
adapters are not needed on newer multiplexers with RJ11 remote
connectors.

NOTE: A split ferrite clamp should be installed on each
modular cable, near the multiplexer connection.

INSTALLING THE REMOTE
CONTROL PANEL
3
The Remote Control Panel comes with everything you need for
desktop or rack mount use.
CAUTION: Disconnect power from the multiplexer before
attaching the local-end adapter to the multiplexer
remote connector.
Position the remote panel close enough to a standard power outlet to connect the power supply cord. Install either the base or
the “ears” (rack mount brackets) using the supplied screws.
Plug the modular cable into the modular telephone jack labeled
in on the back of the Remote Control Panel and route it to the
multiplexer.
NOTE: A 50-foot modular cable is supplied. Cables up to
1,000 feet long can be used. If you assemble your
own cable, make sure it is wired straight through.
For example, Pin 1 on the first RJ11 connector connects with Pin 4 on the other RJ11 connector (see
below).

Remote Control Panel
NOTE: Do not use devices without a direct ground connection between the remote panel and local-end adapter
ground pins.
NOTE: The LED on the local-end adapter is not a power
indicator. It lights when the local-end adapter is
active.
For units with local-end adapters, plug the adapter into the DB25
socket labeled remote on the back of the multiplexer; then plug
the cable into the in modular jack on the adapter.
For multiplexers with RJ11 connectors, plug the cable into the
RJ11 socket labeled remote in on the back of the multiplexer.
If you plan on connecting other multiplexers, you will need a
modular cable for both jacks on the multiplexer rear panel or
local-end adapter. The first jack is in, the second jack is out.
Daisy Chaining
Remote Control Panels can be daisy-chained by connecting the
out modular jack of the first Remote Control Panel to the in
jack of the additional panel. Up to ten Remote Control Panels
can be daisy-chained, each up to 1,000 feet from the previous
panel.
Multiplexers can also be daisy-chained by connecting the out
modular jack from the first multiplexer’s local-end adapter (or
rear panel) to the in jack on the second unit. Up to 16 multiplexers can be connected to one (or more) Remote Control Panel(s).

OPERATING THE PANEL
5
You can change the currently controlled multiplexer by pressing
both function and call on the Remote Control Panel. All 16 LEDs
above the camera buttons on the Remote Control Panel light. The
camera button numbers are used in the same order as the multiplexers are connected to the Remote Control Panel. If you press
the camera 1 button on the Remote Control Panel, you are selecting the first connected multiplexer; pressing the camera 16
button selects the 16th connected multiplexer. The Remote Control Panel LEDs light, matching the LEDs currently lit on the
multiplexer. Each time you change which multiplexer is controlled
by the Remote Control Panel, the LEDs on the Remote Control
Panel (or panels, if daisy-chained), change to match that particular multiplexer’s front panel LEDs.
The Remote Control Panel operates like the front panel on the
matching multiplexer with a few exceptions. For example: the
Remote Control Panel does not recognize combinations of up
or down with the right or left arrow buttons. The up or down
arrow buttons can be used to make adjustments in one direction
and then the right or left arrow buttons can be used for the
other direction. (Refer to the multiplexer manual for more detailed information.)
NOTE: RS-232 commands affecting date and time display,
single camera record and toggles for alarm display
are not implemented in early ROM versions of the
MV90e Series. Contact Technical Support if you experience difficulty with these commands.
If the connection is broken or the multiplexer is turned off, the
Remote Control Panel loses communication with the multiplexer.
When communication is lost, the panel beeps and its LEDs turn
off. If communication is not reestablished, the panel continues
beeping for about 0.5 seconds every 1.2 seconds. Once communication is reestablished, press both function and call on the
Remote Control Panel, then press a camera button (1—16) to
select the multiplexer you want to control. The beeping stops
when the Remote Control Panel returns to normal operation.
NOTE: The Remote Control Panel also beeps if there is an
alarm. To stop the beeping, press and hold any front
panel button for 2 or more seconds.
