Background to the Project
As part of their priority setting process the Education and Children’s Services
Overview and Scrutiny Committee decided to make School Attendance one of the
priority topics for the Municipal Year 2006-7.
Improving school attendance is one of the 17 key aims of the Borough’s Children
and Young People’s Plan. (Key priority 6 on p.48 of Children and Young People’s
Plan). Current figures for 2005-6 are significantly above the targets under the Local
Public Service Agreement to be reached by 2007-8. (Actual 05/06: Primary 5.1%
Secondary 8.4% Special 8.1%; 2007/8 LPSA secondary absence 7%, primary 4%,
and special 6%)
