PROTECTIVE CLOTHING GENERAL INFORMATION Protective clothing is an interesting, and enhancing market. Whilst in the past the protective properties were the main issue, modern functional textiles have to fulfil perfect protective functions as well as wearing comfort and further properties. Thanks to modern textile technology and innovative development, formerly used materials like leather, metal cloths etc. are being replaced by high-tech textiles with pleasant wearing properties and better protection. • weather protection • high-visibility warning • welding protection • heat protection • protective clothing for the metal industry • protection from chemicals • multi-functional clothing for fire brigades, rescue service or military, general outdoor working like forestry, building etc. • flame retardancy • protection against electrostatic charge • medical application CHEMICAL REPELLENT AND WATER REPELLENT PROTECTIVE CLOTHING Protection against water, oil and chemicals is also an important issue. The user requires wash-permanent finishes which incorporate repellent properties against different kinds of liquids. Workwear is treated with a special product based on fluorocarbon which is offered under the name of ® TUBIGUARD PROTECT. While water and oil repellency are standard properties, chemical protection is a special challenge considering that protection against concentrated and sometimes oxidising acids is requested. FLAME PROTECTION CLOTHING Flame protection clothing is an important issue in many different industries. People working in the chemical industry or in various technical or electro-technical fields have to wear flame retardant clothing. Cotton is well proven in this field because the pleasant physiological wearing comfort of a natural fibre is preserved despite flame retardant treatment. The flame retardancy in APYROL CEP ECO achieved through special finishing processes remains after 50 industrial machine washings at high temperatures. PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR METAL PRODUCING AND METAL PROCESSING PROFESSIONS Protection against liquid or igneous metals is a special challenge in the field of protective clothing. For this application field CHT offers intelligent coating solutions based on a nano-scaled ceramic coating with the name TUBICOAT MEA. This special coating is not only effective on fibres commonly found on the market such as aramids, flame retardant wool blends or other fibres with flame retardant properties. It is possible to coat cotton which has been effectively finished with TUBICOAT MEA. The result is protective clothing which is pleasant to wear, has a very high stability to washing and fulfils the highest safety requirements. CHT offers with TUBICOAT MEA an economically interesting variant. SAFETY AND COMFORT BREATHABLE WEATHER PROTECTION CLOTHING STANDARDS FOR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING Wearing comfort and breathability are very closely connected with one another in weather protection clothing. All officially used protective clothing has to fulfil many European standards. Breathability of functional clothing normally means water impermeability and at the same time water vapour permeability. This means that water (rain) cannot penetrate into the textile from the outside while perspiration (water steam) is transported from the body to the outside. Apart from the head standard DIN EN ISO 11612 (Protective clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame) there are a number of relevant substandards applied in different sectors, e.g.: • EN 343: Weather protection clothing against rain • EN 471: Protection via high visibility This moisture transport can be achieved by microporous stable foam coatings (TUBICOAT MP) • EN 470-1: Protective clothing for use in welding and allied processes There is also the possibility of a lamination with the LAMETHAN system, consisting of LAMETHAN ADH1 as adhesive component and LAMETHAN LB 15-T film as breathable membrane. • EN 533: Protection against heat and flame Foam laminations with LAMETHAN can impart excellent flame retardancy besides weather protection on suitable base fabrics because the flame retarding agent can be incorporated into the adhesive and applied onto the entire surface as microporous foam. • EN 14058: Protective clothing against cool environments • EN 1149-X: Protective clothing: Electrostatic properties • EN 13034:2005: Protective clothing against liquid chemicals Qualitätsmanagement ISO 9001:2008 I Umweltmanagement ISO 14001:2004 C HT R .
