BÖHLER BIMETAL STRIP BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM PRECISION STRIP THE COMPANY World Leader BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Precision Strip is a 100% subsidiary of the Böhler-Uddeholm Group, with over 10,000 employees worldwide and an annual turnover exceeding 1.5 billion Euro. The group is listed on the stock exchange and is internationally known to be one of the most successful producers of special steels. The Company – a part of the Precision Strip Division – with its head office in Böhlerwerk, Lower Austria, is the world leader in the production of bimetal strip for metal saws, rule die steel for the leather and textile industry as well as high-precision steel rules for the die cutting of packaging materials. In addition cold-rolled special strip steel with the highest requirements for material properties, surface finish and tolerances is produced. The group guidelines are behind the philosophy and strategy of BÖHLERUDDEHOLM Precision Strip. Important statements of our company philosophy include: • We see ourselves globally as the competent partner in our core business and always strive towards the position of “Best in class”. • The needs and requirements of our customers build the guidelines of our corporate way of thinking. • We promote Quality and Service. The qualification, motivation and flexibility of our staff form the basis thereof. • Our obligation is to a clean environment. SPECIALISTS Our Strengths Close to the Final Product Customers benefit Our company has specialised in the processing of medium- and high-alloy steels, focussing on special executions of the following products: We also offer strip steel profiles close to the final shape, allowing our clients to economise on further processing. We see ourselves as problem solvers. Our solutions aim at maximum customer benefit. • • • • Bimetal strip Cutting, creasing and rotary rules Rule die steel Cold-rolled special strip steel Beam welding equipment to join the high speed steel and backing Rolling mill to smooth the welding seam Automatic setting of rolling mill 4 THE WORLD’S L ARGEST SUPPLIER OF BIMETAL STRIP FOR THE SAW INDUSTRY Bimetal strip was first used in the manufacture of high quality tools in the early 1970’s. The specialists of BÖHLER realised soon the significance of these new compound materials. A variety of high quality special steels are the basis of first class raw material required for the manufacture of high-performance saws. As a subsidiary of the world’s largest tool steel manufacturer, the whole know-how of the BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM AG is also available to the customers of BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Precision Strip. New developments in metallurgy are analyzed in-depth for their suitability for its application, as well as new production technology. The continuous development of these activities made bimetal strip from the “Ybbs valley” a huge success in all parts of the world and BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Precision Strip the world’s largest supplier of bimetal strip for the saw industry. Two different steel grades – high speed steel on the cutting edge and “temper-resistant spring steel” for the backing – are welded together in machine direction without the use of filler metals. BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Precision Strip as the market leader is committed to provide first class bimetal strip for their customers in the saw industry. Through close co-operation and emphasis on our customer’s needs and requirements we are highly recognised as troubleshooters among our international customers. As BÖHLER does not manufacture saws itself, it is able to act as an independent supplier of bimetal strip. High quality manufacturing and the certification to the international standard of ISO 9001 has enabled us to be always one step above the competition. The market for bimetal strip has grown consistently over the years and more and more customers decided to rely on the high standards set by BÖHLER bimetal strip. BÖHLER bimetal strip is subject to accurate quality control 6 BÖHLER – A SYNONYM FOR STATE OF THE ART QUALITY Through close co-operation with universities and research institutes it has been possible to develop an automatic control mechanism which guarantees continual and consistent high quality: • An optimum durability of the welding seam due to the installation of an automatic high precision guide ensures an accurate joint of the high speed steel and the backing during the welding process. • Easy to mill due to low hardness of the weld seam. • A weld without defects due to an automatic identification and removal process of all weld areas with nonconformity. • In addition we offer bimetal strip with minimal distortion and outstanding heat treatment response. • A high lifetime as a result of excellent surface- and edge finish as well as high quality backing. With respect to its production parameters, high speed steel exhibit a very homogeneous and fine-grained structure, offering the condition for obtaining optimum cutting performance. For obtaining high cutting hardness and toughness we recommend at least three tempering cycles. AISI 1) For good ductility choose lower hardening temperature, for good red hardness and wear resistance choose higher hardening temperature. 4) For good ductility you can reduce the lower temperature. For high red hardness and wear resistance choose higher temperature. 2) Is not valid for low hardening temperature and high tempering temperature. 5) For best wear resistance and red hardness the higher temperature can be exceeded. 3) For good ductility lower temperature, for high red hardness choose higher temperature. 17 QUALITY ASSURANCE OUR TARGET Quality Competence Owing to more than 130 years experience in the converting of steel into components for high-grade final products we understand the value of a good partnership.
