To receive full MassTransfer benefits at Westfield State
University, GCC students must meet the following
conditions before transferring:
• Enroll in any of the associate’s degree programs listed
below beginning in fall 2009;
• Complete all requirements for the associate’s degree
programs listed below, including 60 college-level credits
and the 34-credit MassTransfer Block;
• Do not enroll at any other college or university after
graduating GCC;
• Complete the application file by March 1 for fall
enrollment, and by October 15 for spring enrollment;
• Earn a cumulative average of 2.50 or higher at the time
of admission (2.60 or higher is required for admission to
all WSU education licensure programs);
• Submit a final official community college transcript
conferring receipt of the associate’s degree as soon as it
is available (students who complete degree requirements
during terms for which degrees are not conferred also
must send a letter confirming degree completion from
the GCC Registrar or appropriate Academic Dean).
Full MassTransfer benefits include:
• Automatic waiver of the application fee (at WSU, the
application fee waiver applies to graduates of all GCC
associate’s degree programs, provided students file a
paper form or select the version of the WSU online
application designated for graduates of the
Mass community colleges at westfield.ma.edu/apply);
• Guaranteed admission to WSU’s linked programs below,
provided 60 college-level credits are completed as part of
the associate’s degree and space is available in the linked
WSU major;
• Guaranteed transfer of 60 credits, including grades of D
(1.0), but excluding grades of D-;
• Waiver of all outstanding WSU general education core
requirements except 0 to 6 credits (0 to 2 courses), which
will be determined by the Admission Office at the time of
acceptance;
• Eligibility for the MassTransfer Tuition Waiver* upon
receipt of a final official community college transcript
conferring receipt of the associate’s degree with a graduation QPA of 3.0 or higher. (*The MassTransfer Tuition
Waiver is a one-third reduction in the cost of in-state
tuition, or $320 annually, and is renewable for up to 2
years upon maintenance of a 3.0 QPA at WSU.)

Students who complete the 34-credit MassTransfer
Block at GCC without completing the associate’s
degree before transferring to WSU are entitled to the
following MassTransfer Block benefits:
• Guaranteed transfer of 34 credits of Block courses,
including grades of D (1.0), but excluding grades of D-;
• Waiver of all outstanding WSU general education core
requirements except 0 to 6 credits (0 to 2 courses),
which will be determined by the Admission Office at
the time of acceptance.
The MassTransfer Block is comprised of the following
34 credits of liberal arts and sciences course work, as
designated by GCC at the time of transfer application to
another Mass public higher education institution:
• 6 credits of English Composition/Writing
• 9 credits of Humanities and Fine Arts
• 9 credits of Social and Behavioral Sciences
• 7 credits of Natural or Physical Sciences, including one
4-credit laboratory course
• 3 credits of college-level
Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning
