We’ve Got
Your Fence
The reasons for putting up a fence are as varied
as the types of fencing materials. BlueLinx offers a
comprehensive assortment of high-quality light,
medium and heavy gauge fencing products in a
variety of styles, sizes and finishes to suit any need.
Heavy Wire
Heavy wire fencing protects and confines
valuable livestock by presenting barriers
to restrict animal movement. This
fencing consists of materials of sufficient
strength to discourage animals from
going over, under, or through the fence.
Traditional livestock fencing materials
have included barbed, woven, mesh,
and electrified wire.
Wire Netting, Cloth &
Welded Wire
Netting, hardware cloth and welded
wire are ideal for many light fencing and
construction projects. Most commonly
used to contain smaller animals and
create barriers around plants and
gardens, these versatile materials lend
themselves to many other uses.
Fence Posts
Metal posts also known as T stakes can
easily be driven into the ground using a
post driver made especially for the job.
Once Your poles are placed, you simply
attach the fence material to the posts with
metal clips. BlueLinx has metal fence
posts in a variety of lengths as well as
post drivers and clips to get the job done.

Field Fence
Field Fence is manufactured in a wide selection of heights and styles
featuring a graduated spacing that starts with small openings at the
bottom which helps prevent entry from small animals. Field Fence is
designed using a variety of spacing configurations to accommodate
cattle, hogs and other large animals. Roll lengths are commonly 330’.
• Field fence come in both traditional low carbon and also in hi tensile.
• Low carbon wire is easy to work with and somewhat forgiving, it is
prone to elongation (stretching and sagging) and is weaker than high
tensile wire.
• The increased carbon content in high tensile wire significantly
increases the wire’s strength and reduces elongation. Because of
these improvements, it is possible to replace low carbon wire fencing
with high tensile wire fencing of a smaller diameter.
• High tensile fencing is easier to install because of its lighter weight
and requires fewer posts during installation than low carbon fencing.
There are three basic knot designs commonly used:
• Stiff-Stay knot. This design holds the fence very erect and the “S”
knot pattern will not allow slipping, keeping the vertical “stay wire”
and horizontal “line wire” perpendicular. The “S’ knot is smooth to
the touch and strong enough to resist animal impact.
• Hinge-joint knot. This fencing ensures a solid construction over any
terrain. The hinged joint is the fastest design to manufacturer and
most competitive in price.

• Fixed Knot. This knot utilizes solid vertical stay wire, which increase
the vertical strength of the fence and allows for increased post
spacing. The knot is a separated piece of wire tightly wrapped around
the line wire and stay wire. Fixed knot is resistant to animal damage
and is commonly used on tall designs of fencing and others that
require superior strength.

Reading fence styles:
Galvanization Corrosion Resistance
Refer to the style number shown in the
example.
10 The number of horizontal line wires
47 The total height of the fence in inches
6 The space in inches between the vertical line wires (pullout)
9 Gauge of the wires used in the body
Commercial Zinc Three months to one year.
The gauge of the top and bottom wires is
often different from that of the body and is
noted in the tables.
Class 1 Zinc
Two to eleven years in most
non-coastal climates.
Zinc Aluminum
More than twice as long as Class 1.
Class 3 Zinc
13 to 30 years in most non-coastal climates.
ZA + Paint
Up to twice the life of
Class 3.
