Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Electromagnetic compatibility means the ability of a device, unit of equipment, or system to operate correctly in its electromagnetic environment without causing excessive electromagnetic interference to anything in that environment. Generally, the assessment of electromagnetic compatibility deals with: • Electromagnetic immunity, which is the ability of a device, unit of equipment, or system to operate correctly in the presence of electromagnetic interference; • Electromagnetic interference emissions: the phenomenon whereby electromagnetic interference is emitted from a device, unit of equipment, or system. We provide professional, accurate, and prompt services that meet all of your EMC product testing and certification needs. Our measurements, test reports, and certificates assure your products’ EMC compatibility in all important markets. We can also provide partial testing and assistance in your product design processes. Our professional staff is familiar with development trends in electromagnetic compatibility and our laboratory equipment is state-of-the-art. SIQ is a Notified Body under the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC. Scope of services: • EMC testing according to the requirements of international IEC/EN standards, national standards, and industry specifications; • Measurement of low-frequency phenomena (flicker and harmonics); • Measurement of low-frequency and high-frequency conductive currents, voltage, and power; • Measurement of low-frequency electric and magnetic fields, and selective measurement of electromagnetic fields up to 26 GHz; • Immunity testing of electrostatic discharges up to 30 kV (ESD); • Immunity testing of electrical fast and slow transients (Burst/Surge immunity); • Immunity testing of static and dynamic electric and magnetic fields; • Immunity testing of voltage dips and interruptions; • Electromagnetic shielding efficiency measurement; • Technical assistance (technical documentation reviews, use of correct standards, interpretation of national legislation and provisions, and similar); • Training related to legislation and standardization; • EMC testing for the automotive industry according to the provisions on type-approval of motor vehicles. Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) Radio and telecommunications terminal equipment intended for use within the European Union must meet the requirements of the R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC. SIQ acts as a Notified Body under the R&TTE Directive and carries out procedures in line with Annexes III, IV, and V to the R&TTE Directive. Scope of services: • Review of test reports and technical documentation, and issuance of expert opinions or certificates of conformity with the following essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive: –– Requirements for the protection of the health and safety of users and other persons, including requirements for product safety and electromagnetic compatibility; –– Effective use of the radio frequency spectrum; –– Particular requirements for certain individual equipment classes. • Definition of essential tests for radio equipment as the basis for conformity assessment. • Testing according to harmonized standards under the scope of the R&TTE Directive: –– Product safety requirements; –– EMC requirements; –– Requirements for effective use of the radio frequency spectrum (measurement of short-range devices according to harmonized standards; e.g., EN 300 220 and EN 300 330). • Approval of a quality management system on the basis of Annex V to the R&TTE Directive: Full Quality Assurance. This allows the company to carry out conformity assessments of its radio and telecommunications terminal equipment on its own. • Technical assistance in questions related to compliance and market placement of R&TTE equipment: –– Conformity assessment procedures; –– Use of radio devices using radio frequencies that are not harmonized within the EU; –– Technical file and EC Declaration of Conformity; –– CE marking (CE, notified body's number, class 1 or class 2 equipment).
