General Phone Usage
1. Place a Call
Campus numbers are generally five digits. To get an outside line, dial 7 first.
If the phone requires an Authorization Code for long distance calls, you will hear a beep after you have
dialed the long-distance number, then you can enter the Authorization code you have been issued, then
press #.
Placing a Call:
Pick up the handset and enter the number you wish to call.
Or, try one of these alternatives.
Redial the last number
Press the Redial softkey to redial on your primary line. To redial on a secondary line, press the line button
first.
Dial on-hook
1. Enter a number when the phone is idle.
2. Lift the handset or press one of these:

A Line button

Call softkey

Headset button

Speakerphone button

Round Select button in the Navigation bar.
2. Answer
When you get a new call, these indicators display on your phone:

A flashing amber line button

An animated icon and caller ID

A flashing red light on your handset
To answer the call, lift the handset. Or, press the flashing amber line button, the Answer softkey, or the unlit
headset or speakerphone button.
Answer with multiple Lines
For those with phones that are capable of presenting multiple calls, if you are talking on the phone when you
get another call, a message appears briefly on the phone screen. Press the flashing amber line button to
answer the second call and put the first call on hold automatically.
Note that a new call to your primary line rolls over to your secondary line if the primary line is busy.
3. Hold

Press the Hold button. The hold icon appears and the line button flashes green.

To resume a call from hold, press the flashing green line button or the Resume softkey.
4. Transfer
To transfer a caller to another party:
1.
From a connected call (not on hold), press the Transfer button.
2.
Enter the transfer recipient‟s phone number.
3.
Wait until the 2nd Ring or until the transfer recipient answers.
4.
Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey (wait for at least the 2nd Ring or after the recipient
answers). This completes the transfer.
Transfer across lines
You can transfer together two calls on two lines without remaining on the call yourself:
1. From a connected call (not on hold), press the Transfer button.
2.
Press the line button for the other (held) call.
3.
The transfer completes.
Transfer into Voice Mail Directly
You can transfer someone into another party‟s Voice Mailbox directly:
1. From a connected call (not on hold), press the Transfer button.
* NNNNN
2.
Enter
(Star key followed by the 5-digit extension/mailbox number).
3.
Calling party is sent to the recipients Voice Mailbox.
5. Conference
For Conference Calling that involves a number of sites, please use the WSU MeetingPlace Conference
Bridge. More information is available at:

For small conference (2-4 callers):
1.
From a connected call (not on hold), press the Conference button.
2.
Place a new call.
3.
When the party answers, Press the Conference button or the Conference softkey.
4.
The conference begins and the phone displays “Conference.”
5.
Repeat these steps to add more participants.
The conference ends when all participants hang up.
Conference across lines
You can combine two calls on two lines into a conference. You will be included in the conference.
1. From a connected call (not on hold), press the Conference button.
2.
Press the line button for the other (held) call.
View and remove participants
During a conference, press the Details softkey. To remove a participant from the conference, scroll to the
participant and press the Remove softkey. Do so nicely.
6. Mute
1.
While in a call, press the Mute button . The button glows RED to indicate that Mute is on. This mutes all
inputs (Handset, Speakerphone, Headset) but does not mute the speakers so you can still hear the other
party on the line.
2.
Press Mute again to turn Mute off.
7. Voicemail
You may have multiple indications that you have a new message:

A solid red light on the upper part of your handset

“New Voicemail” message on the display screen

A stutter dial tone (generally on Analog phones)
To Listen to messages:
 Press the Messages button and follow the voice prompts.

To check messages for a specific line, press the line button first.
9. Forward All
To forward calls received on your primary line to another number
1.
Press the Fwd All softkey.
2.
Enter a phone number or press the Messages button to forward all calls to voicemail.
3.
Look for confirmation on your phone screen.
4.
To cancel call forwarding, press Fwd OFF.
10. Call Pickup
If you are in a Call Pickup group with other phones you may be able to pickup a ringing line on another
phone. When you hear the other phone ringing:
1.
Pick up the Handset
2.
Find and Press the Pick Up softkey (may have to hit the More softkey to find it).
3.
You should see the caller id in the display. If you wish to answer the call hit the Answer softkey.
11. Call Park
While in a call you may need to „park‟ the caller and pick up the call at another phone (if you need to check
files for example). To Park a call:
1.
While in a call, tell the caller you will be putting them on hold and picking them up at another phone,
then hit the Park softkey
2.
The Display will show the 4-digit Park number (generally 11XX series). Remember this number..
3.
Hangup and go to another phone, and from there dial the Park Number (11XX) - this should
connect you to the parked call.
10. Call History
View your call history
1. Press the Applications button.
2.
Select Call History. (Use the Navigation bar and round Select button to scroll and select.)
3.
Select a line to view.
4.
Your phone displays the last 150 missed, placed, and received calls.
5.
To view details for a call, scroll to the call and press the More softkey,
then press the Details softkey.
6.
To return to your call history, press the Back softkey.
7.
To exit the Applications menu, press the Applications button.
View your missed calls only
1. Press the Applications button.
2.
Select Call History. (Use the Navigation bar and round Select button to scroll and select.)
3.
Select a line to view, scroll down
4. Press the Missed softkey.
View your placed calls only
 Press the up arrow on the Navigation bar when the phone is idle, with all menus closed.
Dial from your call history
1. View your call history, or navigate to your missed or placed calls.
2.
Scroll to a listing and lift the handset, or press a line button or the Select button.
3.
To edit/change a number before dialing, press these softkeys: More and then EditDial and the Left
(<<) , Delete (<X) or Right (>>) softkeys to modify the number, then you may need to hit the More
softkey again to get to the Dial softkey to place the call.
11. Adjusting Sound Volume
You can adjust the sound level of the following using the Volume bar to the left of the keypad.
This is a rocker switch – press to top part to increase volume, press the lower part to decrease it.




Ringer Volume
Handset Volume
Speaker Volume
Headset Volume
To adjust the Ringer Volume level:
•
While the handset is in the cradle (on-hook), press the Volume bar up or down
To adjust the sound volume for the Handset, Speakerphone, or Headset go off-hook with either
the Handset (lift Handset), Speakerphone (hit Speakerphone button) or Headset (hit Headset
button), whichever device you wish to set:
•
While off-hook, press the Volume bar up or down after invoking dial tone (or during a call)
To silence the phone when ringing:
•
Press the Volume Down (lower end of the bar) ONCE only (pressing multiple times lowers the
ringer volume)
