Here are some words that go along with the electricity topics we have been covering
during our science unit. Be sure you know how to spell these words and explain their
meaning!

nucleus
the positively charged core of an atom, which is made up of
protons and neutrons and contains nearly all of the atom’s

a part of the nucleus of an atom; protons carry a positive
electrical charge
neutron
a part of the nucleus of an atom; neutrons carry no electrical
charge
electron
electrons carry a negative electrical charge and orbit around
the nucleus
static (electricity)
a form of electricity that builds up in an object and stays there;
static electricity can be produced when one object rubs
against another
conductor
an object made of materials that electricity can flow through
easily; electrons travel easily through a conductor
insulator
an object made of materials that electricity cannot flow
through at all; an insulator prevents or blocks the flow of
electrons
resistor
an object made of materials that electricity cannot travel
through easily; a resistor lets some electricity flow through it but
not all
circuit
an unbroken loop of conductive material that allows electrons
to flow through continuously without beginning or end
