Biopharmaceutical Science (Special Purpose Award Certificate, Level 8) Aims Ireland is currently experiencing a rapid growth in the Biopharmaceutical sector, with a number of large Biopharmaceutical companies established nationally and a number of new companies locating to the Mid-West. In addition, existing companies are developing and expanding their operations in this sector. The production of Biopharmaceuticals is a high skills-based enterprise. These companies will require a continuous supply of scientists with skills in the manufacture of Biological products and in Bioprocessing. LIT in collaboration with The National Institute of Bioprocessing, Research and Training (NIBRT) will provide an integrated programme of study with hands-on practical training in key areas to allow for employment in this dynamic sector. This proposed programme aims to equip science graduates with specialist skills to complement their existing science qualification, thereby enabling them to function in specialist roles in the Biopharmaceutical sector. Students will gain scientific knowledge and skills pertinent to Cell Culture, Biotechnology, Bioprocessing and Biopharmaceutical Science and also an appreciation of Quality and Regulatory Affairs. Entry Requirements Level 7 or level 8 in a Biological or Chemical Science discipline. Content Bioseparations (5 credits) Biotechnology (5 credits) Quality & Regulatory Affairs (5 credits) Cell Culture & Biocontamination Control (5 credits) Bioprocessing Placement (10 credits) Assessment/Examinations The programme will be assessed through continuous assessment and examinations.
