Edwards 5540M Series Millennium Central Tone Generators have been designed for applications where simultaneous signaling of a high decibel, heavy duty signal is required.
The Millennium Central Tone Generator produces the 27 standard Adaptatone sounds. The tone generator assures a synchronous signaling sound from all remote speakers.
The tones may be activated from field-wired, normally open contacts, or a 24Vdc external voltage source such as an output of a PLC. The tones may be selected by setting miniature dip switches within the unit. The programmed tones operate on a pyramid-type priority system.
5540M Central Tone Generator – 4 inputs, 4 outputs
• Heavy duty zinc cast construction
• Models available for 24Vdc/AC 50/60 Hz, 120VAC 50/60 Hz,
120VAC to 240VAC 50/60 Hz and 125Vdc to 250Vdc
• 24Vdc battery backup terminals provided
• Short Circuit protected
Adaptatone Signaling Systems are designed for industrial applications calling for high decibel output and microprocessor reliability combined with simultaneous signal delivery over all speakers included in the system. Typical applications include: emergency warning systems, plant evacuation alarms, security intrusion sirens, process monitoring, shift start-and-dismissal horns, and paging signals.

Programming the Adaptatone Signal for the tone or tones selected is accomplished through setting the switches located in the signal base. A convenient tone selection chart is provided in the cover of each unit. In some cases the signaling task will dictate the tones required. For example, if a paging function is to be performed one of the unique percussive tones (Chime1 or Chime 2) may be most suitable.
Local regulations or standards may require specific tones such as siren, horn, hi-lo. In some cases varying ambient noise may necessitate on-site evaluation of all available tones to select the most suitable tone. On-site volume control is also available by adjusting the conveniently located volume control in the base.

The Adaptatone Millennium signals have priority capability.
The programmed tones operate on a pyramid-type priority system. Page is the highest priority. The tone programmed on switch 1 overrides the tones programmed on switches 2, 3, and 4. The tone on switch 2 overrides the tones programmed on switches 3 and 4. Likewise, the tone on switch 3 overrides the tone programmed on switch 4. The tone programmed on switch 4 has the lowest priority and cannot override any other programmed tone.

5532M Remote Speaker/Amplifiers
The Edwards Adaptatone Remote Speaker/Amplifiers are designed for systems operation - connected to the Central
Tone Generator. Each signal operates directly from its own local power source - making it possible in a single system to connect the Remote Speaker/Amplifiers to local power sources of different voltages (i.e. 240VAC in a foundry location and 120VAC in an office facility). Each signal also contains its own volume control and has the same seven position adjustment as the standard Adaptatone signal.
5532M Speakers/Amps are designed for 1/2" (13mm) conduit or surface mounting.
