APPENDIX B Connectors and Cables This appendix provides connector and cable pinout information for the 100BaseTX and console ports on the FastHub. 100BaseTX Ports The 100BaseTX ports use standard RJ-45 connectors, as shown in Figure B-1. The pinouts are listed in Table B-1. 100BaseTX Port Connector Table B-1 100BaseTX Port Connector Pinouts H9266 Figure B-1 Pin Signal 1 RD+ 2 RD- 3 TD+ 4 NC 5 NC 6 TD- 7 NC 8 NC Connectors and Cables B-1 100BaseTX Ports Ports 1x through 16x have their transmit (TD) and receive (RD) pairs internally crossed. When connecting these ports to another hub, switch, or router (unless you are connecting to the uplink port on another FastHub or 100BaseT hub), ensure that you use a crossover cable. Port 16, which is to the right of port 16x, is the 100BaseTX uplink port. This uplink port is not internally crossed. When connecting this port to another FastHub 100BaseTX port or to the 100BaseTX port on another hub, switch, or router, ensure that you use a straightthrough cable. Remember that the port on the device to which you are connecting must be an X port. Straight-through and crossover cable schematics are shown in Figure B-2. The following sections describe the rollover cable and adapters for the console port. Identifying a Rollover Cable You can identify a rollover cable by comparing the two modular ends of the cable. When holding the cables side-by-side, with the tab at the back, the wire connected to the pin on the outside of the left plug should be the same color as the wire connected to the pin on the outside of the right plug (see Figure B-3). If your cable came from Cisco Systems, pin 1 is white on one connector, and pin 8 is white on the other (a rollover cable reverses pins 1 and 8, 2 and 7, 3 and 6, and 4 and 5). Figure B-3 Identifying a Rollover Cable Pin 1 on one connector and pin 8 on the other connector should be the same color.
