Procedure: CRATE UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS
Description: Instructions for how to unpack the items in the Seakeeper 9 Gyro crate.
1) Cut off the metal strapping around the crate.
(Note crate may look different than illustrated.)
2) Remove the twelve (12) screws that attach
the top cover as shown. Remove the top cover.

3) After removing the crate cover, be certain to remove the two (2) top gyro cover panels located on one
or more of the four side locations. Also remove any boxes or cables that may have been placed on top
of the gyro.
4) A total of six (6) boards must be removed from inside the crate. Two sides of the crate contains three
(3) boards, two (2) vertical supports and one (1) horizontal support as shown. Hold the vertical
supports on the inside of the crate as the screws are removed so they do not fall on the gyro. A total
of eighteen (18) screws must be removed – three (3) per board. Remove the six (6) boards from
inside the crate.

5) The next step is to lift the gyro assembly out of the crate. The following photographs containing green
circles show acceptable methods to lift the gyro, such as a spreader bar or long lift slings. Keep the
lifting lines as close to vertical as possible. Do NOT use short lines as shown in the red circle as the
lift eyes may be damaged. (NOTE: GYRO MAY LOOK DIFFERENT THAN ILLUSTRATED.)

6) As shown in Illustration ”A”, attach lifting lines to the two (2) lifting eyes on the top of the gyro sphere.

7) Keeping the gyro level, lift the gyro and its
mounting plate from the shipping crate.

8) Remove the four (4) Lag Screws that hold the gyro to the mounting plate. Attach lifting lines to the
gyro as shown in Step 6 above. Keeping the gyro level, lift the gyro from the mounting plate.
Use caution when removing four (4) Lag Screws to keep from damaging cables and
hoses on the inside of the gyro.
