Carefully review and examine all other Contract Documents for requirements therein affecting the work of this Section. Furthermore, coordinate and sequence the work of this Section with all other trades affected. 1.2 SUMMARY Furnish and install manually operated front projection screens and pertinent accessories where as indicated on Drawings and/or as specified in this Section. 1.3 RELATED WOK Examine Contract Documents for requirements that affect work of this section. Other Specification sections that relate directly to work of this section include, but not limited to: Division 6 Section "Misc. Rough Carpentry": for wood blocking, grounds, nailers and shims required to support the screen mounting brackets. Division 9 Section "Gypsum Boards": for abutting drywall construction and substrate. Division 9 Section "Acoustical Ceilings": for abutting ceiling assemblies and edge trims. 1.4 DEFINITIONS Gain: Indication of screen's luminance or brightness, measured perpendicular to screen center and relative to magnesium carbonate block, which serves as standard for 1.0 gain. Higher numbers indicate greater brightness. Viewing Angle: Horizontal angle from perpendicular center of screen at which gain or brightness decreases by 50%. Format: Proportion of projection screen viewing area expressed as a ratio of width/height. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 1.5 NTSC or Video Format: 1.33:1. HDTV Format: 1.78:1. 16:10 Wide: 1.60:1. Cinemascope: 2.35:1. Letterbox: 1:85:1. Square: 1:1. SUBMITTALS A. Submit under the provisions of Division 1 Section "Submittal Procedures - CM R". Product Data. Shop Drawings: Provide shop drawings for fabrication, and installation of all parts of the work. Provide details of anchorage, connections and accessory items. Provide installation templates for work installed by others. Show all interfaces and relationships to work of other trades. Provide wiring diagrams for electrically operated units. 102313 PROJECT NO. Sustainable Design: GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification® (certification #90068) indicating that screen surfaces meet performance-based standards to define goods with low chemical and particle emissions for use indoors. The viewing surfaces shall have the GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certification indicating that these surfaces comply with the State of California's Department of Health Services Standard Practice (CA Section 01350) for testing chemical emissions from building products used in schools. As such, GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified products can be used as a strategy to earn credits in MA-CHPS Best Practices Manual for K-12 schools. 1.6 REFERENCES International Code Council (ICC): International Building Code. B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with Massachusetts State Building Code. Field Measurements: Take all necessary field measurements before preparation of shop drawings and fabrication. Do not delay progress of the job. If field measurements are not possible prior to fabrication, allow for field cutting and fitting. 1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING Storage and Protection: Store electric projection screens in a dry, ventilated area, protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions, at a temperature less than 80 degrees F (27 degrees C). Handling: Handle electrically operated projection screen materials with care in order to prevent damage. Deliver materials in manufacturer's original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact. Waste Management and Disposal: Separate waste materials for reuse and recycling in accordance with Division 1 Section "Construction Waste Management & Disposal CMR". PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. 102313 Provide products from one of the following manufacturers, or Architect approved equal: 1 Da-Lite Screen Co., Inc., Warsaw IN. 2 3 Draper Shade and Screen Co., Inc., Spiceland, IN. Bretford Manufacturing Co., Schiller Park, IL. PROJECT NO. BI-RT-844-CMR SECTION 11 52 12 MANUALLY OPERATED PROJECTION SCREENS Page 3 of 4 4. 2.2 Or equal as approved by Architect. PROJECTION SCREEN - MANUALLY OPERATED Location: as indicated on Drawings. Manufacturer and Type: Except where noted otherwise, shall be 60" x 60", wallmounted, manually-operated projection screens 'Model C' by Da-Lite Co., or approved equal from another specified manufacturer. Description: Screen surface shall be flame and mildew-resistant fiberglass fabric, matte white, with 2 inch black masking borders. Screens shall be secured to 3-inch diameter ball-bearing rigid steel spring rollers. Case shall be of pressed 22 gauge steel with baked enamel finish, and shall be complete with plated steel end caps with steel inner plates to support the roller tube and form sturdy wall brackets. Bottom of screen shall be equipped with tubular metal slat concealed within the bottom seam pocket. An extruded aluminum saddle with plated steel pads shall be screwed to the slat at each end. Ends of slat shall be protected by heavy-duty plastic caps. A pull cord shall be provided at bottom of screen. Metal bumper stops, padded with sponge rubber, shall be built into case to prevent flat wedging inside case. Integral metal brackets shall be supplied for mounting to wall construction, as indicated. Concealed wood blocks for mounting of brackets shall be provided by Rough Carpentry and Gypsum Drywall trades. 2 Include aluminum pull-down pole at each screen. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 COORDINATION Coordinate electric projection screen placement with placement of other ceiling and wall mounted components. 3.2 EXAMINATION A. Site Verification of Conditions: 2. 3. 4. 3.3 Verify that conditions of substrates previously installed under other sections or contracts are acceptable with electrically operated projection screen installation. Ensure electrical power supply is installed to meet electric projection screen requirements. Inform Construction Manager of unacceptable conditions immediately upon discovery. Proceed with installation only after unacceptable conditions have been corrected. INSTALLATION General: Install projection screens at locations indicated and in compliance with manufacturer's printed instructions. Securely install screens plumb and level to supporting substrate. Install projection screens with screen case in position and relationship to adjoining work as indicated on approved shop drawings. Securely anchor workto supporting substrate. 3.4 FIELD QULITY CONTROL A. 102313 Testing and Inspection: Operate each screen 3 times to ensure viewing surfaces extend PROJECT NO.
