Space:
Space is emptiness that is enclosed in various ways.
Aalto’s drawing is linked with his tale Lastentaru takkavalkealla (A children’s fireside story).
In it, the space is enclosed by three boys sitting on chamber pots, who have lit a bonfire at the
centre of the space!
In what other ways can space be formed?
Equipment: Mirror
Place the mirror on your nose, reflective side upwards,
and examine the ceiling. Then change it so it is on
your forehead and the reflective side is facing
downwards.
How do the different viewing angles affect the space?
The second drawing shows an empty ground plan of the Museum. Sketch in the different spaces: foyer,
shop, café, exhibition gallery, emotions?
