The University of California Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders is an all-expenses-paid, careerbuilding fellowship which provides intensive two-week training to first- and second-year students from historically black
colleges and universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs).
As a participant in the program, you'll learn from world-class educators at the University of California's graduate business
schools. You'll meet one-on-one with CEOs, CFOs and other industry leaders in some of the country's most thriving hubs
for enterprise and innovation. You'll participate in dynamic, hands-on workshops that will immerse you in principles of
business development and entrepreneurship and help build analytical, technical and management expertise. You'll gain
exposure to opportunities for career development and for continuing on to pursue a master's degree in business. And
you'll make valuable connections with your peers in the program, some of the country’s best and brightest.

This fellowship offers students from HBCUs and HSIs an unrivalled opportunity to launch their future in business
management.
What Are the Details?
Who: The fellowship is open to 25 freshmen per fellowship class. Students must be current
freshman enrolled at an HBCU or HSI as of November 2015. Students may apply from any major,
but should demonstrate an interest in business
Cost: The Summer Institute is an all-expense-paid fellowship that includes airfare; full room and board at
campus dormitories; transportation; the cost of materials, events and entertainment that are part of the
program.
What: Students attend for two weeks a year, for two consecutive years. The 2016 session will run from
August 7-20. Upon completing their second session, students are issued a Certificate of Completion as an
emerging leader and manager that can be cited on their resumes or provided as evidence of marketable skills.
Where: As a systemwide initiative, the program will rotate throughout the University of California's six
participating business schools. This year's program will be at the University of California, Riverside in
partnership with the School of Business Administration, home of the A. Gary Anderson Graduate
School of Management.
The University of California, Riverside is one of ten universities within the prestigious University of California
system, and the only UC located in Inland Southern California. Widely recognized as one of the most
ehtnically diverse research universities in the nation, Chancellor Kim A. Wicox and Provost Paul J. D'Anieri are
implementing plans for an aggressive expansion of the faculty, planning to bring an additional 300 ladder-rank
faculty obboard.
The School of Business Administration is the beneficiary of a proportionate number of these new hires making
it one of the strongest business schools in the UC system. With a strategic plan firmly in place, this AACSBacrreditied school is in the midst of developing many new "centers of excellence" in partnership with business
and the community. The School focuses not only of the education and development of its students but also
focuses on their maturation as managers and leaders who lead with courage and make an impact on
the communities they serve.
