TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR
HIGH-PRESSURE SODIUM VAPOUR LAMPS
1. GENERAL
1.1. Object and Scope
This specification covers the high-pressure sodium vapour lamps to be used for
road and street lighting in distribution systems.
The types and characteristics of the lamps to be purchased are specified in this
specifications and appendices.
1.2. Standards
Unless otherwise specified in this specification, the lamps shall be manufactured
and tested in accordance with the latest editions in force of the following Turkish
Standards, which have been harmonized with the European standards.

1.4. Definitions
Rated Power: The power marked on the lamp.
Initial Luminous Flux: The luminous flux in lumens measured after aging the lamp for
100 hours.
Economical Life: The time duration in which the total luminous flux of a group of lamps
of the same characteristics in use, decreases by 30 % with respect to the measured
luminous flux after aging them for 100 hours.
2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1. General
Lamps within the scope of this specification shall start and operate satisfactorily between
92% and 106% of rated supply voltage and at temperatures down to -400C, when they are
operated with suitable ballast and an ignitor.

At the armatures for mercury vapour lamps should be suitable for ballasts replacement or
should not be need addition of any other auxiliary hardware.
2.3. Dimensions of Lamps
Lamp dimensions;
-For High Pressure Sodium Lamps with external ignitor, Standard TS 8511 EN 60662,
-For High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps with internal ignitor, instead of High Pressure
Mercury Lamp dimension will be convenient according to standard TS 895 EN 60188
2.4. Lamp Caps
Caps of manufactured lamps shall be in accordance with TS EN 60061-1.
2.5. Initial Luminous Flux
Offered lamps within the scope of this specification; by using referance balasts that are
suitable with related standards, measuring of luminous flux values at rated power shall
not be less than 90 % values indicated in the following table..

2.6. Economical Life
The economical life of lamps to be purchased within the scope of this specification shall
be;
-
at least 20.000 hours for High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps with external
ignitors,

at least 9.000 hours for High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps with internal
-
ignitors.
Variation curve will be given as per the lamp initial luminous flux usage duration. This
curve will include the elapsed time up to decrease at the starting luminous flux and the
curve shall include the guaranteed economical life marked.
2.7. Marking
The following information shall be written legibly and indelibly one each lamp:

Origin of lamp (may be marked as Trademark, Manufacturer’s type mark.),

Rated power of the lamp (W)
-
Symbol showing the starting method (According to TS 8511 EN 60662 Clause 4)
-
Manufacturing date of the lamp (as month and year)
-
CE mark.
3. INSPECTION AND TESTS
3.1. Test Rules
The High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps with external ignitor in the scope of this
specification shall be tested according to the procedures and methods in TS 8511 EN
60662, and the test results shall be evaluated according to the same standards.
The High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps with internal ignitor in the scope of this
specification shall be tested according to the procedures and methods in TS 8511 EN
60662, and the test results shall be evaluated according to the guaranteed properties list
(except the lamp dimensions)
3.2. Type Tests
Lamp starting and operation test at 92% and 106% of rated supply voltage and

3.3. Routine Tests

Check of dimension,( the dimensions of High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps
with internal ignitors, substitution high pressure vapour mercury lamp shall be
according to TS 895 EN 60188, the dimensions of high pressure sodium vapour
lamps with external ignitors will be evaluated according to TS 8511 EN 60662)
3.4. Acceptance Tests
The acceptance tests shall include type tests and routine tests.
Acceptance tests shall be carried out on the samples taken randomly according to the
following table from the parties submitted for acceptance; of the lamps of the same type
and power.

3.5. Acceptance Criteria
N samples shall be taken randomly from the party. If the number of defectives after the
testing of initial N1 samples is less then or equal to C1, the party shall be accepted, if it is
greater than or equal to C2 the party shall be rejected. If it is in between C1 and C2, the
second group of N2 samples shall be tested. After these second tests, if the total number
of defectives is less than C2 the party shall be accepted, otherwise it shall be rejected.
4. MISCELLLANNEOUS CLAUSES
4.1 Packing
Lamps will be packaged to provide maintaining immovable way in the cardboard boxes.
6-50 quantities of these boxes will be put inside of the boxes which are made cardboard
or equivalent material for high way and sea transportation.

4.2 Document and figures to be submitted with proposal
The following document will be given with proposal;
-
Guaranteed characteristics list: the bidder shall be fill and sign the guaranteed
characteristics annexed list of this specification with filling for each lamp. If the
guaranteed characteristics list is missing and/or the proposals have alternative
information, the proposals will be rejected.

As initial luminous flux of lamp usage duration variation curve ( this curve will be
included time passed duration up to 50% decreasing of the initial luminous flux.

Documents, which indicates that the proposed lamps are appropriate according to the
proper standards. (These documents shall be given by an accredite institute. The
institute that gives the document shall be certified by TURKAK indicating that is
accredited. Documents given by TSE will be also accepted. )

5. WARRANTY
The contractor warrant for a period of 24 months starting from the date of delivery for the
lamps of operating conditions specified in the specification.
The lamp found defective shall be replaced by the contractor at his own expense. The
replaced lamps will have the same warranty condition given above.

Accreditation control can be done either by a written document given by TÜRKAK(Turkish
Accreditation Agency) or by controlling web site of TÜRKAK by the administration.
