Return Air Grilles
The maximum filter grille capacities are dependent upon the type of filter media being used and can vary greatly. The sample calculations below are a general rule
of thumb for common filters used in residential applications. An average face velocity (VK) of 430 FPM is based on a filter medium capacity of 2 C.F.M. per sq.
inch of effective filter area (288 C.F.M./sq. ft.).
To find more precise results, the performance of the filter grille itself (without the filter) must be combined with the performance data from the filter manufacturer.
Performance data for the filter grille can be found by using the data from the corresponding return air grille, i.e. for 170 FF, use 170 data.
