2015 American Red Cross Course Schedule:
SwimAtlanta Pool Management offers a variety of American Red Cross courses for certification in
Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards. We only offer certification classes for those are have
been hired and will be working from SwimAtlanta Pool Management this season. Completion of the
course requires 100% participation. If you miss any classes, there are no make ups.
Prerequisites to Course Admission:
Participants must pass a prerequisite skills test before they can take the Lifeguard Course. The
prerequisite test is administered on the first day of the course. Participants who DO NOT pass the
prerequisite skills test will be refunded the registration fee.
1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates
may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back
or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
Candidates should place their hands under their armpits.
3. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a
10 pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the
object. Note: This is a timed event, 1min. 40sec.
Course Completion Requirements:
1. Attendance & Participation in all class sessions.
2. Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
3. Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios (water examination).
4. Correctly answer at least 80% of the questions in each of the four sections of the final
written examination.
What do I bring with me to the training course?
Swimsuit, towels, change of clothes, goggles, snack, lunch or money for lunch, and a pen
or pencil.
Lifeguard Review Classes:
This class is intended for return employees, or an individual who has already been certified in Lifeguard
Training, but needs to recertify. CPR is included in the review class, so you do not need to sign up for a
separate CPR class. If your Lifeguard certification expires in 2014 you have two options. First, take the
full 3 day class for full price or take a one day review class and test in the same day. Classes fill up
quickly at this time of year, so it is important to sign up as soon as possible. If you would like to sign up

class.
