At DTE, we work hard every day to deliver safe, affordable, and reliable electricity to our customers. But we don’t stop there. UNDERSTANDING OUR RATES 14-0052/GRP/02-14/1.9MM On average, a residential customer pays about $100 per month. Here’s the breakdown of how your energy dollar is used: 6¢ 50¢ Service Charge Power Supply DTE Energy’s rates are divided into two main parts, plus applicable Surcharges. Our most common rates are Residential and Senior Citizen. Power Supply Charges: The main component is Power Supply Energy. This charge is the amount you pay per kilowatt hour* (kWh) and includes the cost to generate the electricity you use; and the cost to own, operate and maintain power plants. Delivery Charges: The Service Charge is a fixed monthly charge that covers the cost of billing, meter reading, customer service, etc. Printed on recycled paper. Printed locally to support the Michigan economy. *Kilowatt hours (kWh): A measure of energy that is equal to 1,000 watts for one hour (e.g., with one kilowatt hour, you can watch a 32” LCD TV for about ten hours). Customers are charged for electricity in cents per kilowatt hour. The Distribution Charge is the amount you pay per kilowatt hour* (kWh) for delivering the electricity you use across our poles and wires and includes maintenance of the distribution system. 34¢ Distribution 10¢ Surcharges OUR MOST COMMON RATES Residential Electric Service Rate* Service is provided through a single meter to a single or double occupancy dwelling.
