Volume Issue April 1, 2015 Dear Parents, Have you ever wished that children came with Instruction Manuals? This would be a handy tool for new parents. Unfortunately, we learn how to parent by trial and error, advice from our parents/friends, and books. Society is different from the world we experienced when we were children. I know I hint at my age when sharing that I grew up in an age where we did not have VCR’s, DVD’s, or cable television. The good ole’ days included a television with about 4 channels to watch if all the elements of earth aligned at just the right time for reception to occur or when a family member finally turned the outside TV antenna to allow good reception for a couple channels. It is so wonderful to have all these new media sources to educate our children. However, these new sources have pros and cons. While our children are exposed to multitudes of information; unfortunately, good is mingled with the bad. We are always looking for ways to keep students safe by implementing iSafe lessons to teach internet safety and discuss cyber bullying. While researching on this topic, I discovered a remarkable website, Informed Families/The Florida Family Partnership, established in 1982: http:// informedfamilies.org/ Parents have access to webinars and current trends among youth. I believe in the saying that, “It takes a village to raise a child.” As we work together with our children’s best interest at heart, we can all protect and help raise our children. Children benefit from having many people in their lives to whom they are accountable regarding life choices. Speaking of a village, I would like to thank everyone for a remarkable 5K Color Run and Pow Wow. We were so excited to have our Pow Wow back on the list of family events to host. In the future, we are hopeful this event will continue to grow. Our fabulous PTA ladies, staff, faculty, community partner involvement, and all the various High School volunteers, did a remarkable job, and we are so blessed to have their talents shining within our school. They (PTA) are still looking for parents to volunteer with events planned for the remainder of the school year. If you have upcoming free time, please assist with donating your most valuable gift, your time, to help serve our school, students, and families. In closing, I received a wonderful email filled with compliments from a parent who is also a teacher at a neighboring school. This made me proud of our school climate, and I want to thank you for your contribution to our climate. I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter including Good Friday. Thank you for your continued support. Respectfully, Mrs. Fleming FROM THE LIBRARY Do you have gently used children’s books laying around your house?
