TECHNOLOGY TO THE FORE SW I TC H G EAR C O M P L E X INTRODUCTION More than 9000 Crompton Greaves SF6 Gas Circuit Breakers with puffer type interruptors upto 420 kV have been put into service in various environments in many countries since 1983 where they are operating satisfactorily. Type SFGP SF6 Circuit Breakers are of live tank type with rated voltage of 24 & 36 kV. Each breaker consists of three puffer type interruptors, providing a high insulation as well as an excellent breaking capability, a spring operating mechanism ensuring high operational reliability. All our SF6 Gas Breakers (24 to 420 kV) adhere to the requirements of the quality standards and scope of supply of ISO 9001, 1994. FEATURES INTERRUPTER UNIT - FIG1 Absorbent Stationary contact holder Stationary contact Gas flow Arc Nozzel Moving arc contact Moving main contact These SF6 Gas Circuit Breakers are extremely simple Piston Puffer cylinder and compact in their design owing to the fact that Main contact no gas blast valves or exhaust valves are required and the force of contact separation simultaneously Contact spring drives the puffer piston, which builds up the gas pressure according to the contact stroke. The structural simplicity results in high performance reliability and, therefore, minimal inspection and re-assembly. Also this ensures that the OPERATING MECHANISM - FIG2 maintenance time is low. Roller The low operating noise level of the spring charged operating mechanism used in this breaker enables Tripping spring its use in residential areas. The breaker the operating mechanism has been made extraordinarily simple and light to increase safety in the event of earthquakes. The breakers are type tested for short circuit duties and capacitive current switching test as per IEC 56-1987 EASE OF INSTALLATION Since these units are shipped in two parts - namely the pole unit and the mechanism - minimal site preparation is required and setup time is very low. DESIGN The interrupting unit (FIG.1) is puffer type and is contained in a porcelain insulator and the terminals. During interruption the puffer cylinder is quickly driven downwards with its attached parts by the operating mechanism (from the breaker "closed" position to the breaker "open" position). The gas within the puffer cylinder is compressed by the piston and blown to the arc through the nozzle achieving arc extinction. The operating mechanism (FIG.2) is an easy to handle motor charged spring type. It also permits manual operation of the breaker. High reliability has been ensured by keeping the number of components to a minimum and, therefore, maintenance required is easy and minimal.
