Why Automotive Technology?
When it comes to keeping today’s cars and
trucks running at their maximum potential,
mechanical skills are just the beginning. You will
learn, develop and apply the abilities required
to properly diagnose, repair and maintain the
parts and systems comprising the incredibly and
increasingly sophisticated vehicles of today …

The Program
Macomb’s Automotive Technology Program
provides you with the opportunity to develop the
skills, knowledge and abilities required for entry
level positions in the automotive industry.
Certified by the National Automotive Technicians
Education Foundation (NATEF), your training will
include working on vehicles in modern service
bays, using the most up-to-date diagnostic and
repair tools and equipment available.
An Associate of Applied Science Degree and
Certificate are offered in Automotive Technology.

General Motors Automotive
Service Education Program
MOPAR® CAP Automotive Program
Start your career as a worldclass service technician. The
General Motors Automotive
Service Education Program is
a two-year associate degree
program that combines
advanced automotive technical training with a
strong academic foundation in reading, electronics
and analytical skills. You’ll alternate in 8–12
week intervals between academic studies and a
paid position at a service center, assigned to an
experienced technician. Scholarships and tuition
assistance are available.
The MOPAR®
Automotive Program
provides exclusive
hands-on training for
Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge, Ram and Fiat® products.
With these skills, you’ll be in higher demand.
You can earn and learn with flexible educational
paths and scholarship opportunities. The Macomb
MOPAR® CAP is constantly seeking candidates who
have a strong aptitude for mechanical and electronic

Career and Employment Outlook
Because automotive technology is becoming increasingly
sophisticated, employers prefer candidates who have completed a
formal training program in a postsecondary institution.
With an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology
from Macomb, you will be qualified for positions that include
automotive service technician, mechanic and automotive
engineering technician.
With a Certificate in one of the five specialty areas or with a SkillSpecific Certificate in Alternative Fuels, you will be qualified for
positions that include automotive service technician and mechanic.
The outlook for qualified jobseekers should continue to be very
good. The median annual wage for automotive service technicians
and mechanics was $36,610 in 2012.
