XT Series Overview
XT Series
XT Series exterior fixtures are available in 2, 3, 4, and 6 lamp configurations, with two foot and four foot lengths
and three optics: High Bay (Miro-4 or White reflector), Forward Throw (Miro-9 reflector), or Back-to-Back Forward
Throw (Miro-9 reflector). These combinations produce superior lumen output and energy savings of nearly 50% over
standard HIDs.
Product Summary
Applications
Miro-4 or White High Bay Optics are used in general exteriors,
parking lots, and roadways. Forward Throw Optics are used to
project light forward without the need to tilt the fixture. Back-toBack Forward Throw optics project light in two directions.

2, 3, 4, and 6 lamp configurations with Miro-4 or White High Bay
optics.
2, 3, and 4 lamp configurations with Forward Throw optics.
Certification
UL Wet Listed. IDA-approved Dark Sky compliant fixture (unless
tilted).
Construction
Durable, powder-coated galvanneal steel housing with
polycarbonate lens. Closed cell foam gasket. Venting technology
equalizes pressure fluctuations caused by temperature changes,
reducing the chance of moisture infiltration.
Electrical
Hardwired power connection. T5 programmed start ballast.
Fixtures can be wired for full or dual switching.
Finish
Standard finishes available in black, bronze, gray, and milk
white. Custom finishes are also available.
Optics
High Bay (Miro-4 or White), Forward Throw, or Back-to-Back Forward
Throw.
Brackets
Mounting bracket (EB-UMB) included with each fixture.

XT Series Fixture Options
Optics
Finish
XT Series exterior fixtures are available with three optics: High
Bay (Miro-4 or White), Forward Throw (Miro-9), or Back-to-Back
Forward Throw.
Standard XT Series exterior fixtures are available
in textured bronze, black, gray and white. Custom
colors also available.
High Bay
(Miro-4 or White)
High Bay optics deliver light directly under
the fixture. Miro-4 is the standard material
for this type of optic; white high bay is
also available for applications that require a
more dispersed light.
Forward Throw
Forward Throw optics are designed to
aim light where it is needed. This optic
is best used on roadways and parking
lot perimeters, throwing maximum light
toward the center of a roadway or parking
lot and preventing light from being project
to an undesired area behind the fixture.
Back-to-Back
Forward Throw
The Back-to-Back Forward Throw optics
send light in opposite directions. The optics
are positioned back-to-back, splitting the
light in a four-lamp fixture. These optics
provide a wider light distribution, and
are typically used when a fixture is end
mounted (see example of end mounting on
page 3).
Controls
Fixture controls, whether they are based on occupancy, ambient
light, or wireless control, are the best way to obtain maximum energy
savings while enhancing security. The controls are available with
Orion’s XT Series exterior fixtures:

Lamps
The standard lamp in an XT Series T5 2 ft. exterior
fixture is 24 watts (5,000˚K). The standard lamp
in an XT Series T5 4 ft. exterior fixture is 54
watts (5,000˚K). Orion’s exterior fixtures are
also available with the following T5 lamps: 830
(3000˚K), 835 (3500˚K), and 841 (4100˚K).
The color temperature can dramatically change the
look of a lighting application.
Occupancy Sensor
Turns on fixtures when motion is present. Available for remote
mounting with all exterior fixtures.
Photo Eye
Controls fixtures based on ambient light levels. Mounts directly to an
XT Series exterior fixture or pole topper.

XT Series Mounting Options Overview
The XT Series exterior fixtures can be mounted in a variety of ways in order to accommodate many different exterior
applications. The following mounting options are available:
• Straight Round Adaptor or Right Angle Round Adaptor (mounts one fixture on a horizontal or vertical tenon, respectively)
• Wall Mounts (mounts one fixture using standard or pivoting options)
• Pole Mounts (mounts one fixture using bolt-on or adaptor options)
• Pole Toppers (mounts two, three, or four fixtures using pole topper options)
Additionally, a mounting bracket is included with every XT Series exterior fixture, and is used to connect a fixture to
any exterior mounting configuration.

Description
Enables fixture to be adjusted from 0° to 60° in 15° increments.
Symmetrical bolt pattern enables bracket to attach to a fixture in any
direction. End panel opens, allowing access to electrical connections.
1/2" conduit hole accommodates the attachment of controls (such as a
Photo Eye or InteLite Sharkfin) to the fixture.

Description

EPA Guidelines for Pole-Mounted Luminaires
Effective Projected Area (EPA)
Each light pole has a maximum EPA rating and a maximum allowable total weight that it can safely support.
The following guidelines should be verified by a qualified professional to ensure the integrity of the system
design and foundation specification.
Effective Projected Area (EPA)
The Effective Projected Area (EPA) is a calculation of the “visible” surface area, measured in square feet,
that a fixture projects to the wind, assuming the wind is blowing in a horizontal direction (i.e., parallel to the
ground). When Orion fixtures are mounted parallel to the ground, they project a very small surface area to the
wind. As they are tilted up, they project more surface area to the wind thereby increasing the EPA and placing
a greater wind load on the pole.
The EPA rating of a pole is the maximum EPA load that the pole is capable of safely supporting. The total
EPA of the components mounted on any pole must not exceed the pole’s maximum EPA rating for the wind
zone in which it is located.
To Calculate the EPA of an Exterior Fixture Configuration:
Add the EPA values of all the fixture(s) and mounting bracket(s) to be installed.
EPA Example Calculation
Existing Pole EPA Rating = 8.0
Proposed Fixtures:
Two 2 ft., 4-Lamp Exterior Fixture (High Bay Optics) with an EPA of 1.59 each at a 15° Tilt
Proposed Pole Topper: One Two-Way Pole Topper (EB-2PTPxFT) with an EPA of 0.72 each
Calculation: [2 x 1.59] + 0.72 = 3.9
This calculation’s total EPA of 3.9 is less than the existing pole’s maximum EPA Rating of 8.0,
making it suitable for use on this pole.

Maximum Weight
The maximum weight is the maximum allowable total weight the pole is capable of safely supporting.
The total weight mounted on any pole must not exceed the pole’s maximum weight-carrying capacity.
To Calculate the Total Weight of an Exterior Fixture Configuration:
Add the weights of all the fixture(s) and mounting bracket(s) to be installed.
Weight Example Calculation
Existing Pole Maximum Weight = 75.0
Proposed Fixtures:
Two 2 ft., 4-Lamp Exterior Fixture (High Bay Optics) with a weight of 20.9 lbs. each
Proposed Pole Topper: One Two-Way Pole Topper (EB-2PTPxFT) with a weight of 10.3 lbs. each.
Calculation: [2 x 20.9] + 10.3 = 52.1 lbs.
This calculation’s total weight of 52.1 is less than the existing pole’s maximum allowable
weight of 75.0, making it suitable for use on this pole.
IMPORTANT: The customer is solely responsible for proper selection of the pole, luminaire, and
accessories for the given site conditions and intended usage. Orion Energy Systems assumes no liability
for determining weight limits or EPA compliance. Depending on the installation location, ice loads may also
need to be considered when calculating the total weight.
